Two Ways to Classify Master Objects
To classify master objects, you can proceed in one of two ways:
- Start from the object itself and access the classification to assign one or more classes to the object.
- Start from the class and assign the relevant objects to it.
The following video explains these options.
Classification Status
Earlier, you learned how the statuses of characteristics and classes control the classification of objects.
The classification status provides information about the current state of an object’s classification.
The following video explains how the classification status works.
Note
To ensure that users can save only complete classifications, you can implement user exit CLFM0003 as described in SAP Note 337262.
User Settings: Search Result
You can control how search results are displayed on the Find Object tab using the user-specific settings.
For example, you can define:
- Which objects are included in the search results, such as objects with locked assignments, incomplete assignments, or characteristics without assigned values.
- ow search results are displayed, for example by object key with or without a description, or by object type and classification status.
- How the search results are sorted.
The settings for the search result scope are important because they determine how many objects are found and how these results are displayed.
The Objects with Characteristics but No Values option returns objects for which no value has been assigned to the characteristics used as search criteria. In other words, it finds objects that do not contradict the specified criteria. For example, if Color = Red is used as a search criterion, the search returns not only red materials, but also materials for which no color has been assigned.
Release of Classification
Once you have reviewed the classification status, you can change it to Released.
The following video demonstrates the different ways to manually release a classification.
As an alternative to manual release, you can enable automatic release of the classification status, depending on the reason why the status was set to Incomplete. If the status was set by the system rather than by a user, automatic release can be activated.
Watch the following video for more details on how automatic release can be configured and used.
Find Classes
To perform a classification-based search, you must specify the appropriate class on the initial screen.
The following section describes several scenarios that help you identify the correct class.
The following video details the Find Classes method.
The following video explains the advantages of performing searches based on a class type. Keep in mind that the class type determines which SAP object types are handled separately.
Once you have performed a search, you can restrict the result in reports, as the following video explains.
Before executing the search, you can specify reports or transactions that will be used to process the objects found in the search results.
In addition to these options, search results can be saved or exported in various file formats.
