Introducing Coupons in SAP Commerce Cloud

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to define coupons within the context of SAP Commerce Cloud and identify their key benefits.

Introducing Coupons

In SAP Commerce Cloud, coupons are promotional alphanumeric codes used to offer promotions to customers.

Customers enter coupon codes during the checkout process to get a certain benefit (1).

Coupon codes can be created flexibly and are usually tied to a brand or particular promotion campaign (2) (for example: SummerSale, SAPoffer, or Back2School20%off). Codes can also be more complex and used for distribution to individual customers. We’ll explore the difference a little further in the next lesson.

Here are some other benefits offered through coupons:

  • Reduce the total value of a cart.
  • Buy a product at a lower price.
  • Get a free gift.
  • Get free delivery for an order, and more.

Coupons need to be used as part of promotion rules. They can take the role of a condition, meaning a customer must enter a code to qualify for a promotion. As such, they can be combined with other conditions, just like with any other promotion rule.

In addition, coupons can also be used as actions, where a customer receives a coupon as a benefit:

Summary

  • Coupons require a code to be entered on the storefront.

  • They must be part of a promotion rule to take effect.

  • Coupons can be a condition (customer enters a coupon code) or an action (customer receives a coupon).
