Migrating an SAP HANA On-Premises Platform

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to perform a migration from SAP HANA On-Premises Platform to SAP HANA Cloud

Migration Landscape Overview

In this lesson we are going to show you how to perform a migration from an on-premises SAP HANA database to an SAP HANA Cloud database instance using the Self-Service Migration for SAP HANA Cloud.

The image shows the landscape used for the migration.

The image shows an overview of the on-premises to SAP HANA Cloud landscape with all the important input data need by self-service migration tool.

Note

For the SAP HANA on-premises scenario, you require the connectivity_proxy service plan to be added to the connectivity service in your subaccount entitlements.

During the migration the self-service migration tool requires some input before the actual migration run can start. The self-service migration tool requires the following input:

  • Migration Name - Give a short descriptive migration project name.
  • Migration Description - Give a good description for the migration project.
  • Source Type - Select the type of the source database that is being migrated.
  • Source Instance Host - This is the virtual host name exposed to the SAP BTP through the Cloud Connector.
  • Source Instance Port - This is the virtual port number exposed to the SAP BTP through the Cloud Connector.
  • Cloud Connector Location ID - This is the location ID defined in the Cloud Connector.
  • Migration Username - This is the dedicated migration user account created on the source database during the preparations steps.
  • Migration Username Password - This is the password you specified during the creation of the migration user.
  • XS Advanced Admin User credentials - This is the XSA admin user account created on the source database.
  • XS Advanced Admin User password - This is the password of the XSA admin user.
  • XS Advanced Controller - This is the hostname of the server where the XSA controller is running.
  • XS Advanced Controller password - This is the password of the XSA admin user.
  • UAA Controller user - This is the hostname of the server where the UAA Controller is running.
  • UAA Controller password - This is the password of the UAA Controller user.
  • SAP BTP Cloud Foundry user - This is a SAP BTP Cloud Foundry user account that can be used to logon to the SAP BTP
  • SAP BTP Cloud Foundry password - This is the password of the SAP BTP Cloud Foundry user.
  • Target database username - This is the database administrator user name created during the SAP HANA Cloud database deployment.
  • Target database password - This is the password you specified during the deployment of the SAP HANA Cloud database.

Demonstration: Using the Self-Service Migration Tool to Migrate an On-premises SAP HANA including a XS Advanced application to SAP HANA Cloud

The demonstration shows migration from an on-premises SAP HANA database with an XSA application to an SAP HANA Cloud, SAP HANA database on SAP BTP.

Summary

In this lesson, you learned how to use the Self-Service Migration for SAP HANA Cloud tool to migrate an on-premises SAP HANA database to SAP HANA Cloud.
