Migrating SAP HANA Service for SAP BTP, Cloud Foundry environment

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to Execute the migration from SAP HANA Service for SAP BTP, Cloud Foundry environment to SAP HANA Cloud.

Migration Landscape Overview

In this lesson, we're going to show you how to perform a migration from an SAP HANA Service for SAP BTP, Cloud Foundry environment to an SAP HANA Cloud database instance using the Self-Service Migration for SAP HANA Cloud.

The image shows the landscape used for the migration.

The image shows an overview of the SAP HANA Service on Cloud Foundry Environment to SAP HANA Cloud landscape with all the important input data need by self-service migration tool.

Note

For the SAP HANA Service on Cloud Foundry scenario, the source and target database need to be located in the same region.

During the migration the self-service migration tool requires some input before the actual migration run can start. The self-service migration tools requires the following input:

  • Migration Name – Give a short descriptive migration project name.

We will use: CF to HC Self-Service Migration.

  • Username – This is the user name that can be used to connect to the SAP BTP Cloud Foundry environment.

    We will use: P1234567890.

  • Password – This is the password for the user account P1234567890.

    We will use: Welcome1

    Note

Please note that Welcome1 is NOT a strong password and shouldn't be used during a real migration.
  • SAP BTP Region – This is the SAP BTP region of the source database.

    We will use: EU (Frankfurt).

  • Cloud Foundry Space: – The self-service migration tool requires the Cloud Foundry space name where the SAP HANA Service is located.

    We will use: dev.

  • Source Instance Name:– Is the SAP HANA Cloud Service instance name shown in the Service Instances list.

    We will use: CF_Source.

  • Username – This is the dedicated migration user account created on the source database during the preparations steps.

    We will use: MIGUSER.

  • Password – This is the password you specified during the creation of the migration user.

    We will use: Welcome1

    Note

Please note that Welcome1 is NOT a strong password and shouldn't be used during a real migration.
  • Migrated Instance Name – To migrate the SAP HANA Schemas and HDI containers service the new migrated instance needs a prefix and a suffix in the name.

As prefix we will use: demo_.

  • Target Instance – This is the name of the SAP HANA Cloud target database.

    We will use: HC_CF_Target.

  • Target database Username – This is the database administrator user name created during the SAP HANA Cloud database deployment.

    We will use: DBADMIN.

  • Target Username Password – This is the password you specified during the deployment of the SAP HANA Cloud database.

    We will use: Welcome1

    Note

Please note that Welcome1 is NOT a strong password and shouldn't be used during a real migration.

Demonstration: Using the Self-Service Migration Tool to Migrate an SAP HANA Service on Cloud Foundry Environment to SAP HANA Cloud

The demonstration shows migration from an SAP HANA Service for SAP BTP, Neo Environment to an SAP HANA Cloud, SAP HANA database on SAP BTP.

Summary

In this lesson, you learned how to use the Self-Service Migration for SAP HANA Cloud tool to migrate an SAP HANA Service on the Cloud Foundry environment to SAP HANA Cloud.
