Exploring SAP Build End-To-End Use Cases

Objectives

After completing this lesson, you will be able to:
  • Explain SAP Build foundations.
  • Discover SAP Build use cases.

The Value of SAP Build Product Combination

SAP Build offers various ways to meet business needs, providing visual, traditional, and AI-supported solutions to create automated processes, app extensions, and business sites in the intelligent enterprise. All these functionalities are centrally located in the SAP Build Lobby. The various options provide flexibility and involve different roles, so that not only professional developers, but also citizen developers can participate in the developments and innovations. This ensures that domain knowledge, that is, specialized knowledge from various expert fields, positively influences technical development.

Overview of SAP Build solutions to solve different problems

An interesting concept is Fusion Team Development, which integrates various SAP Build solutions and roles, allowing everything to be brought together in one cohesive project. This innovative approach fosters collaboration and streamlines the development process, enabling teams to work more efficiently and effectively.

In this learning journey example, it is shown how the seamless integration of SAP Build low-code solutions—including SAP Build Process Automation, SAP Build Apps, and SAP Build Work Zone—can ensure that an end-to-end scenario can be quickly developed through drag-and-drop functionality. This not only accelerates the development process but also minimizes the need for extensive coding, making it accessible to a broader range of users.

Exploring End-To-End Use Cases

Watch the following video to get an idea about the possibilities of SAP Build.

There are countless use cases demonstrating how SAP Build products can be integrated to tackle various business challenges. To provide a clearer understanding, a few examples will be introduced below, showcasing how SAP Build Process Automation, SAP Build Apps, and SAP Build Work Zone are used for end-to-end scenarios. These examples will be presented initially to give an overview before the methods are explored in detail later in the course.

1. Automated Invoice Processing

By combining various services of the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), additional possibilities arise. One example is the rapid creation of an app with SAP Build Apps, which can capture invoice documents using prebuilt device logic. SAP Build Process Automation can then analyze these documents for the desired information with the help of an Artificial Intelligence service and feed them into an automation process. Simultaneously, apps, processes, or information can be displayed on a business site that was previously created with SAP Build Work Zone.

2. Supporting Employee Relocation

Another example where SAP Build can help is supporting employees during relocation using HR capabilities. With SAP Build Process Automation, a unified, centralized relocation process can be implemented. Tasks like assigning roles and creating meeting schedules will run automatically by involving the right stakeholders (employees, HR business partners, receiving managers). With SAP Build Apps, employees receive customized apps to complete their assignments, while HR business partners can add data or outline necessary requirements. Employees can find valuable information about the relocation process and their future workspace on a centralized business page (created using SAP Build Work Zone), which also serves as an HR workspace for HR business partners. Through the interaction of SAP Build capabilities, it’s easier to provide clear guidance during the relocation journey.

3. Automated Bid Management

A further practical business case where SAP Build can come into play is the creation of specialized workspaces and processes for bid management. SAP Build Process Automation automates the end-to-end bid process, starting with the upload of a Request for Proposal (RFP) and ending with the approval of the bid submission. Within the automated bid process, SAP Build Apps can easily submit the RFP, check if the requirements are fulfilled, and identify which employees must be involved. This allows the creation of a high-level plan that can be sent out for approval. SAP Build Work Zone is the central workspace for the bid team to exchange knowledge, share interesting articles, or discuss certain topics. In this example, SAP Build helps to ensure cross-team collaboration and optimizes response management by providing a specialized workspace.

4. Sales Order Management

SAP Build can streamline the sales order management process by automating end-to-end workflows. Using SAP Build Process Automation, triggers, forms, and workflows are created to gather data, which is then smoothly integrated with SAP S/4HANA for sales order creation. A simple app built with SAP Build Apps lists products and initiates orders in SAP S/4HANA. Furthermore, a business site using SAP Build Work Zone can include a forum and feed for the sales order process, embedding the app for easy access. By integrating UI5 Cards with BAS, data visualization and interaction are enhanced, providing an efficient and collaborative sales order management system.

Additional Use Cases and End-to-End Exercises

Two additional use cases are addressed in this course, with the first (warehouse re-order) guiding through the lessons and content with examples, and the second (certification registration) representing the final exercise in the last lesson.

Introducing the Learning Journey Use Case

SAP Build Products

Overview of SAP Build services

This learning journey aims to serve a dual purpose. First, it acts as an additional resource to illustrate what is required and the opportunities that arise when integrating SAP Build products in a low-code environment. Second, it prepares learners for the low-code certification, demonstrating an understanding of the functionalities of SAP Build low-code products and the advantages and features of their integration. The core functionalities of the individual SAP Build products, which are also necessary to complete the final exercise, are covered in their respective primary learning journeys:

For SAP Build Process Automation: Developing with SAP Build Process Automation

For SAP Build Apps:

For SAP Build Work Zone:

Note

Throughout the various lessons and the final exercise, essential methods are revisited or referenced to enhance understanding.

Integration of the SAP Build services

The goal of this learning journey is to create a simplified end-to-end process, in which all three mentioned low-code solutions from SAP Build are linked together in a short time to gain an initial understanding of the integration and related methods.

In the final exercise, a process is created that starts with an API trigger and leads to an auto-approval or manual approval based on a simple condition. This process is triggered by an app, which is built with a single page containing the necessary components and simple logic. Finally, the app will be deployed and implemented as a card in SAP Build Work Zone.

Note

A more detailed description can be found at the end of the learning journey.

Next Steps

Through the learning journeys and repetition hints mentioned above, the app, process, and business site can be built. To acquire the final knowledge necessary for linking SAP Build Apps, SAP Build Process Automation, and SAP Build Work Zone, the focus is on the second unit.

Change to Using this course and the learning journeys listed above, you can construct the three parts in the second unit of this course, linking together the SAP Build LCNC Portfolio.

To make the concepts more understandable, this journey will be guided by the use case of the S.MART store. S.MART has developed an additional process to optimize inventory levels by automating re-orders when certain criteria are met. This process and the corresponding app are integrated with SAP Build Work Zone to create a centralized dashboard, providing real-time insights and streamlined inventory management.

Further information and detailed value journeys on this use case can be found here.

But first, we will explain in the next lesson which role the SAP Business Technology Platform takes in this integration scenario.
