Creating Audit Rules

Creating an Exception Message

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to configure and describe an exception message in Concur Invoice Professional Edition

Exception Messages

The exception is the then portion of the if/then statement and it is triggered when the audit rule conditions are met.

The exception is made up of three components: the Exception Code, the Exception Level, and the Exception Message. Review the following terms and definitions to learn more.

Exception Code
This is the company-defined code for the exception, up to eight alphanumeric characters and all uppercase.
Exception Level
The company decides how many exception levels (up to 99) to use. The company also determines the point at which the severity of the exception prevents the user from submitting the purchase request or invoice. This is established in the Workflow settings.
Exception Message
The message that appears to the user on their purchase request or invoice.
The image displays the Exceptions page in an invoice processing admin system with a New Exception pop-up window. The pop-up shows fields for Exception Code, Exception Level, Message, and Editable By. The Message field contains “Please review your distributions.” Save and Cancel buttons appear at the bottom.

Configure an Exception Message

Review the following steps to learn how to configure an exception message.

Steps

  1. Select Exceptions.

The image displays the Exceptions page in an invoice processing admin menu. It highlights the Exceptions link in the left navigation. The main panel shows search filters, plus New, Modify, and Remove buttons. It lists exceptions in a table with columns for Code, Level, Editable By, Product Code, and Message.
  2. To modify an existing exception, select the exception and then select Modify to customize the exception.

The image displays the Exceptions page with a list of exception rules. It highlights the Modify button and a selected exception row in the table. The table shows columns for Code, Level, Editable By, Product Code, and Message. The highlighted row includes a message about an invoice pending approval longer than allowed by policy.
  3. To create a new exception, select New and complete all the appropriate Exception fields.

The image displays the Exceptions page with a Modify Exception pop-up window. The pop-up shows fields for Exception Code, Exception Level, Message, and Editable By. It includes Save and Cancel buttons. An arrow points from the exceptions list to the pop-up form.

  • Define exception components: code, level, and user-facing message text.
  • Configure exceptions by selecting Exceptions, then modifying existing or creating new entries.
  • Use exception levels to control severity and potential submission blocking via workflow settings.
