Where You Can Use Joule

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to identify where Joule can be accessed in SAP applications and explain how it supports seamless work across systems and devices.

Where Joule Fits into Your Work

Joule is not a separate tool you need to open. It is embedded directly into the environments where you already work, becoming part of your daily workflow.

This means you can interact with Joule in context—while working in applications, reviewing data, or completing tasks—without switching between systems.

Using Joule in SAP Applications

In most cases, you will use Joule directly inside SAP applications.

It is typically accessible through:

  • a button in the interface (for example in the shell bar)
  • a launcher or embedded panel

Once opened, Joule provides a conversational interface where you can ask questions, navigate to relevant areas and perform tasks, all without leaving your current screen.

Joule can guide you to other SAP applications as part of your workflow, allowing you to continue the same conversation there without losing context.

Working Across Systems

Business processes often span multiple systems. Joule supports this by working across SAP and non-SAP environments.

It uses the context of what you are doing to:

  • surface relevant information
  • guide next steps
  • connect data across applications

This helps reduce switching between tools and keeps your work more connected.

Using Joule with Microsoft 365 Copilot

Joule is integrated with Microsoft 365 Copilot, allowing you to access SAP capabilities within familiar tools.

You can:

  • retrieve SAP insights while working in Microsoft applications
  • trigger SAP-related actions without switching systems

This allows you to work in the environment that best fits your task, while staying connected to your business data.

Desktop and Mobile Access

Joule is available directly within SAP applications and web-based environments, where you can interact with it through an embedded interface or web client.

It is also available on mobile devices through SAP Mobile Start, allowing you to interact with SAP applications using natural language on your smartphone or tablet.

For example, you can check information, approve tasks, or even start a request using voice commands such as:

"Hey Siri, ask Joule in SAP Mobile Start."

One Consistent Experience

Wherever you use Joule, the interaction remains the same.

You describe what you need in natural language, and Joule helps you move from question to action. This consistency makes it easier to adopt across different tools and scenarios.

Getting Started with Joule

Now that you know where Joule is available, the next step is simply to start using it.

Getting started is straightforward and follows a simple pattern: Find. Click. Talk.

Find. Click. Talk.
  • Find the Joule icon

You can access Joule directly from the SAP application toolbar or through SAP Mobile Start on your mobile device.

  • Click the Joule icon

This opens the Joule interface, where you can begin interacting through a chat-like experience.

  • Start talking

You can immediately ask questions or give commands in natural language, such as:

    • "Take me to my employee profile."
    • "I need to request time off for next week."
    • "Show me sales by product year to date."

There is no need to learn specific commands or navigation paths. You can simply describe what you need, and Joule will guide you from there.

Note

Joule is available across key SAP solutions such as SAP S/4HANA Cloud (Public and Private Edition) and SAP SuccessFactors, and supports multiple languages , allowing you to work in a way that fits your role, region, and preferences.

Summary

Joule is embedded across SAP applications, mobile environments, and integrated tools such as Microsoft 365. By appearing directly within the flow of work, it enables a consistent and context-aware experience across systems and devices, helping users access information, perform tasks, and stay focused without switching between tools.
