In SAP Digital Manufacturing, the term "set point" refers to data objects that store information used for shop floor integration. Set point is a general term for this data object, but when talking about set points in detail, we must distinguish between set point groups and set point indicators:
A set point indicator contains data to define machine settings that a control system or PLC should follow.
For example, the pressure of a boiler or the speed of a motor speed controller.
Set point indicators can be of different data types, such as String, Numeric Value, or Boolean.
A set point group is a collection of set point indicators that can be assigned to a common master data record. That means set point indicators in a set point group belong together.
For example, a set point group can be created for specifying related set point indicators for a particular resource or order. Therefore, ensuring that a specific set of machine data values are used on a particular resource or for a particular order.
In SAP Digital Manufacturing, set points can be created and maintained in the Manage Set Points app. In this app, it is necessary to define the set point group, the version, and the status. Then, you can specify your set point indicators and assign the set point group to your master data records. When specifying a set point indicator, it is necessary to define the resource, the data type of the set point, and the value. When assigning the set point group to the master data record, resource assignment is also mandatory.
When it comes to machine integration, set point indicator data can be sent from SAP Digital Manufacturing to the shop floor.
