Identifying Integration Components in ESM

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to identify and explain the necessary components needed to perform integration between ESM and other platforms

ESM Integration Components

In this lesson, you will explore how integration between ESM and S/4HANA is established to enable smooth data exchange. You'll learn how ESM manages service requests, how the Integration Suite acts as a bridge between systems, and how S/4HANA supports backend processing by sending or receiving data to streamline case resolution.

To accomplish a proper integration between the different systems the following components need to be available:

The image is a flowchart illustrating the interaction between different components of ESM (Enterprise Service Management) integration. It begins with a header labeled ESM Integration Components. Below the header, there are three stacked rectangles representing different systems or components involved in the integration process. The top rectangle is labeled SAP Enterprise Service Management, followed by an arrow pointing down with the text 1 Request/Trigger beside it. The middle rectangle is labeled SAP Integration Suite, which has another downward arrow labeled 2 Action Executed leading to the bottom rectangle. The bottom rectangle is labeled SuccessFactors or SAP S/4HANA Cloud system. An upward arrow labeled 3 Response leads back to the SAP Integration Suite, and another upward arrow labeled 4 Action Executed connects back to the SAP Enterprise Service Management component. This flowchart illustrates the sequence of requests and responses between the systems in the integration process.

ESM Integration Components

SAP ESM

A system designed to streamline service processes across an organization, by providing collaboration tools, a knowledge base, and connections to back-end systems to address customer, supplier, and employee issues.

Action:

  1. Request/ Trigger

Send posts or requests to the integration suite.

    SAP Integration Suite

The SAP integration suite serves as the middle system that facilitates the dataflow between ESM and S/4HANA. S4/HANA serves as the core ERP system that receives data from ESM or provides data upon request to expedite the handling of tickets.

    Action:

  2. Action Executed

Provides pre-packaged integration content for common integration scenarios.

Enables real-time data exchange and messaging between systems.

Manages integration flows, including error handling, monitoring, and orchestration.

SuccessFactors or SAP S/4HANA Cloud System

Serves as the core ERP system that manages key business processes such as finance, procurement, manufacturing, and more.

    Action:

  3. Response

Receives events related to business processes and sends back data if a request is made by SAP ESM.

SAP Integration Suite to SAP Enterprise Service Management

    Action:

  4. Action Executed

Based on the action, information will have been posted into S/4HANA or SuccessFactors or retrieved from said systems and displayed in ESM.

Lesson Summary

In this lesson you examined the necessary components to achieve an integration between ESM and S/4HANA. ESM serves as the main system to handle cases and resolving requests. The integration suite serves as the middle system that facilitates the dataflow between ESM and S/4HANA. S4/HANA serves as the core ERP system that receives data from ESM or provides data upon request to expedite the handling of tickets.
