Using AI-Assisted Enterprise Search

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to use natural language queries to search for business objects in the SAP Fiori launchpad

Overview of AI-Assisted Search

The Shift to Natural Language

Traditionally, searching for enterprise data required users to know specific field names, transaction codes, or rigid search parameters. The introduction of AI-Assisted Enterprise Search changes this paradigm significantly.

In the following video, Sarah and David discuss how this feature moves away from rigid parameters to allow users to search using natural language, just as they would speak to a colleague.

System Demonstration

Now that we understand the theoretical shift, it is important to see how this works in a real-world scenario. The system analyzes the user's intent and automatically translates it into specific filter conditions.

The next video demonstrates this workflow with "Elle," an internal sales representative. Watch how she enables the feature in her settings and uses queries like "in process from Q1 2025" to instantly retrieve specific sales orders without manual filtering.

As shown, the feature must first be enabled in the User Profile Settings under the Search category. Once active, the AI understands the intent behind queries regarding business objects like Sales Reports, Purchase Orders, or Project Statuses, making data retrieval intuitive and efficient.

Understanding Natural Language Search

The Power of AI in Search

The AI-Assisted Enterprise Search feature allows users to access business data efficiently by using natural language. Instead of manually selecting multiple filters, you can type queries exactly as you think of them.

When you enter a query, the system uses AI to generate filter conditions based on your intent. These conditions refine the results to ensure precision.

Common examples of natural language queries include:

  • "Show me sales orders with net amount > 100 euros"

  • "Show me open sales orders"

  • "Show me sales orders created yesterday"

Review the figure below to see how the search bar displays the query and the resulting AI filters.

Enabling and Configuring the Feature

Activation Prerequisites

The natural language search functionality is not active by default. To use it, you must explicitly enable it in your personal settings.

Follow this path to activate the feature:

  1. Open the User Actions Menu (Profile icon).

  2. Select Settings.

  3. Navigate to the Search entry.

  4. Check the box for Enable AI Natural Language Search.

Once selected, the system displays a list of business objects that support this feature, such as Billing Documents, Customers, and Sales Orders.

Note that accessing this generative AI feature may require additional entitlements and authorizations. Consult your SAP account executive if the option is unavailable.

Lesson Summary

Key Takeaways

You now understand how to leverage AI to simplify your data retrieval tasks. Remember these key points:

  • Activation: The feature must be enabled in the User Profile Settings under "Search".

  • Natural Language: You can type queries in plain English, such as specifying timeframes or value thresholds.
