SAP Business Technology Platform Mobile Services

A diagram categorizing various mobile services into three groups: App Services, Security, and Supportability. Each group contains multiple services like Push Notifications, Multi-Factor Authentication, and Mobile Analytics.

SAP Business Technology Platform Mobile Services provides services for mobile applications development, configuration, and management.

SAP Service and Asset Manager mobile client connects to SAP Business Technology Platform Mobile Services for user authentication, data exchange with back-end SAP system, and application update. SAP Service and Asset Manager mobile client doesn’t communicate directly with back-end SAP system, always through SAP Business Technology Platform Mobile Services.

Here are some SAP Business Technology Platform Mobile Services features used by SAP Service and Asset Manager:

  • Application Lifecycle:

    Manage the lifecycle of SAP Service and Asset Manager client application metadata definitions. Definitions revisions can be deployed and pushed to users' mobile client over the air seamlessly, without requiring reinstallation of SAP Service and Asset Manager mobile client.

  • Enterprise Grade Offline/Online OData Sync:

    Define destination URL for back-end OData Service end-point and authentication mechanism using principle propagation. Define OData sync configurations and connection parameters, including offline configuration, such as ODdata request batch, sync sequencing, offline DB table indexes, sync payload format, and son on.

  • Mobile Setting Exchange:

    Define security, data protection, and logging policies for SAP Service and Asset Manager mobile client.

    1. Passcode: Enforce a minimum length and complexity passcode, for the user to access the SAP Service and Asset Manager application from the mobile client.

    2. Log policy: Specifies the maximum level of client-side logging and log size that can be uploaded to SAP Business Technology Platform Mobile Services for issue diagnose. Defines maximum number of client logs, and log retention periods in SAP Business Technology Platform Mobile Services.

    3. Usage report policy: Enable collecting device usage data and upload to SAP Business Technology Platform Mobile Services for analytics reporting.

    4. Locking and wiping policy: Enable remote reset of SAP Service and Asset Manager mobile client in the event that a device is lost or stolen.

    5. Feature restriction policy: Enable/disable application access to mobile device features, such as barcode scanning, printing, and calendar access.

  • Push Notification:

    Configure push notification for iOS or Android devices using Apple Push Notification Service or Google Cloud Messaging.

    SAP Service and Asset Manager users can receive push notification on mobile device when an emergency work order or notification is updated in SAP back-end system and assigned to the user.

  • Logging and Analytics:

    Configure and enable network tracing and logging in SAP Business Technology Platform Mobile Services to allow monitoring, debugging, and troubleshooting.

  • Authentication and Application Onboarding:

    Perform user authentication using customer defined identity provider, and application onboarding from SAP Service and Asset Manager mobile client.
