Defining the Standardized Framework

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to define the activities added to the standardized framework to support Clean Core.

Standardized Framework

The RISE with SAP Methodology augments the existing SAP Activate roadmap tasks and deliverables by adding activities that focus on gathering important information prior to the implementation, then onboarding the project team and ensuring the team is familiar with the clean core-related activities and how to complete them. With clean core activities and quality gates as checkpoints, the RISE with SAP Methodology enables improved business agility, shorter upgrade cycles, and faster adoption of innovation and new functionality.

The image displays a horizontal workflow diagram showing the six phases of SAP Activate methodology: Discover, Prepare, Explore, Realize, Deploy, and Run, with quality gates between phases and supporting activities shown below, including business value handover, onboarding, and success plan execution components that manage tasks, quality, and reporting throughout the customer journey.

Note

The clean core success plan leads through the customer value journey.

Clean core quality gates (QG) support adherence to the clean core success plan and the project KPIs.

In the Discover phase, valuable information is captured while working with the customer through the Digital Discovery Assessment. This information is handed over to the implementation team to set the direction for the project and provide critical insights into the customer’s planned journey. The onboarding team and customer success managers play a crucial role in gathering this data.

In the Prepare phase of the SAP Activate Methodology, a dedicated Onboarding Advisor from SAP will host five 1:1 sessions to introduce the customer and core project team (including Project Manager from partner implementation team or SAP) to the RISE with SAP Methodology, concepts of "Clean Core", and how to trigger the initial provisioning of systems via SAP for Me.

Additional live webinars are hosted to cover onboarding topics, and a detailed handbook is available in the RISE with SAP Onboarding Resource Center.

Throughout the remaining phases of the implementation (Explore, Realize, Deploy, and Run), the Project Manager of the implementation (partner or SAP) verifies completion of tasks for each phase through Clean Core Quality Gates. These check-points include questionnaires filled out by the Project Manager through SAP Cloud ALM. After completion, the questionnaire is submitted to SAP’s Enterprise Support team. This team then provides a feedback report with 1) recommendations based on the responses to the questionnaire, and 2) recommendations based on the available data of the customer’s system. These reports are reviewed between the RISE with SAP Enterprise Architect from SAP and the Project Manager of the implementation team (partner or SAP). This continuous cycle of reflection and review is intended to keep the system in the best possible state to consume upgrades and innovations faster.

Discover Phase: Business Value & Architecture Artifacts Handover

The standardized framework leverages an enhanced SAP Activate project roadmap and begins with the Discover phase. The customer’s existing IT architecture, business processes and operations are analyzed to refine the target scope and value proposition for the future implementation. Documents referred to as "artifacts" are completed by the pre-sales and/or sales people working with the customer to gather their requirements and technical architecture needs. These artifacts are handed over to the implementation team once the implementation project begins to create a smooth transition from the Discover phase to the Prepare phase.

Prepare Phase: Onboarding Sessions with the Customer

In the Prepare phase, a series of calls are led by the onboarding advisor from SAP to introduce the customer to concepts of the RISE with SAP Methodology and introduce them to some of the key tasks that will be competed throughout the implementation.

Flowchart showing SAP onboarding process: Discover, Prepare, Explore, Realize, Deploy, Run stages. Prepare stage includes calls: Get Started, RISE Methodology, Complete, Review Clean Core Quality Gate.

Call #1: Get Started with SAP

The Onboarding Advisor offers the project team a comprehensive overview of the solution's capabilities and the additional entitlements included in the SAP Cloud ERP Private package (for example, SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition, SAP Signavio, SAP LeanIX, SAP Build, and more). The customer IT contact is the designated SAP contact at the customer's organization that has "super admin" permission to their identity provider and SAP for Me, where some systems can be provisioned. The project team refers to other core members of the implementation team, including the implementation partner, and other core project roles from the customer. This call sets the foundation for future calls which will describe the rest of the RISE with SAP Methodology onboarding process.

Call #2: RISE with SAP Methodology & Clean Core Project

The Onboarding Advisor will engage with the customer IT contact and project team to discuss the Clean Core principles and illustrate how the RISE with SAP Methodology is structured to support the customer's implementation journey from inception to completion, whether led by SAP, an SAP partner, or the customer’s own team. The advisor will guide the customer IT contact and project team on setting up the Clean Core Success Plan within SAP Cloud ALM, offering assistance in utilizing SAP Cloud ALM applications to complete tasks effectively. The Clean Core Success Plan consolidates tasks related to "Clean Core" throughout the different phases of SAP Activate into a single location, and the status of these tasks can be monitored by consulting the Clean Core Runbook, also accessible through SAP Cloud ALM.

Call #3: Complete your Clean Core Quality Gate

This Onboarding Advisor will help the project team complete their Quality Gate 1 assessment. This is a time for the customer and core project team members to ask questions before the first quality gate is completed and the assessment is submitted via SAP Cloud ALM. Participants of this call include members of the customer's technical team, the implementation partner, and potentially senior leadership or business process owners.

Call #4: Review your Clean Core Quality Gate Assessment

The Onboarding Advisor will work through the Quality Gate report that was generated in response to the Quality Gate 1 assessment. They will help the customer and core project team understand details of the report and reflect on possible improvements that could be made. Participants of this call include members of the customer's technical team, the implementation partner, and potentially senior leadership or business process owners.
