Creating an SOW Type

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to create an SOW Type in SAP Fieldglass.

SOW Type

SOW Types allow buyers to define the settings, rules, and characteristics available when creating statements of work. The configuration of a SOW Type directly impacts not only the SOW Templates, but also the user experience when creating a statement of work itself.

SOW types define the fields that appear and affect the choices that are made when creating statements of work. Thus, creating an SOW type does not require the entry of new information (other than the name of the type), but requires you to determine what fields and options will appear on the SOW template.

An SOW Type is a mandatory selection required when creating an SOW Template. In fact, it's the first thing chosen when creating a template. For that reason, an SOW type must be created and configured before a template can be configured.

Watch the video to better understand the role an SOW type plays in a services procurement transaction.

Navigating the SOW Type Admin Object

Services section of the Admin Menu, the Sow Type link is highlighted.
1To view the list of SOW types in the tenant, select SOW Type from the Services section of the admin menu.

SOW Type List Page

SOW Type List page listing all of the SOW Types available in the tenant. For each type columns include the Type name, which are selectable links, and Description. The Information Technology SOW Type link listed in the Type column is highlighted.

The SOW Type List page provides minimal information; just the name and description of the type.

2To view the details of an SOW Type, select an appropriate link in the Type column

SOW Type Details Page

SOW Type details page, displaying the two sections that make it up: Template Configuration and Form Page Configuration. Each section lists the fields and functions available on the template, and well as their value. To the left of each item are two columns indicating whether the item is locked, hidden, or both. The Template Configuration and Form Page Configuration sections, as well as the Hidden and Locked columns.

The SOW type details page displays all of the characteristics of the type, and indicates which fields are enabled, visible, or locked.

3Use the Template Configuration section to configure the template fields and rules. The choices made in this section determine the settings that display and the values that default when an SOW template is created using this SOW type.
4The Locked? (padlock) and Hidden? (eyeball) columns are available for you to indicate whether the field is visible on the template and/or if the value should be locked. If a field is hidden, that field will not appear on the SOW template. If a field is locked, that field will appear on the template but will not be editable. If all the fields in a section are hidden, the section is hidden on the SOW template and the SOW.
5Use the Form Page Configuration section to control what a user sees when creating an SOW from a template that uses this SOW type. The fields that display here depend on the previous configurations selected for the template unless the field is only on the form page. If a field or section is hidden on the template, it is also hidden on the form page. If a default value was defined in the SOW Template Configuration section, that value defaults on the SOW form page.

Create an SOW Type

WorkingNet Networking, Inc., a global manufacturer of data networking equipment, is building several new distribution centers in several countries, while simultaneously implementing new logistics software and processes.

Their first new distribution center is being built in a suburb of Atlanta, so WorkingNet will use the new Atlanta hub as their base of operations. They're going to engage CarryAll Consulting, a logistics design and implementation firm, to both help streamline their logistics processes as well as implement the new software.

In order to engage CarryAll, WorkingNet will use SAP Fieldglass to create the statement of work. However, they've never engaged a services provider for this type of work before, so WorkingNet will need to build a new SOW Template to accommodate this project.

As the SAP Fieldglass admin for WorkingNet, creating the SOW Template is your responsibility. But before you can create the template, you must first create the mandatory SOW Type.

Your task is to create the SOW Type for logistics process software implementation projects so that SOW templates associated to that type present the appropriate fields and require accurate information for creating logistics-related SOWs.

Summary

SOW Types in SAP Fieldglass define the settings, rules, and characteristics for creating statements of work (SOW). They impact both SOW Templates and statements of work, determining the fields and options available. SOW Types must be created before configuring a template.

Key Points:

  • Influence: SOW Types influence template configuration and statement of work creation, locking or hiding fields as necessary.
  • Mandatory Selection for Templates: SOW Type is mandatory for creating SOW Templates and defines the available fields and options.
  • Streamline Workflow: Proper configuration of SOW Types helps streamline template creation and SOW workflows, tailoring them to specific project needs.
  • Customization of Fields: Admins can lock, hide, or set default values for fields to ensure accuracy and efficiency in SOW creation.
  • Detailed Configuration: The SOW Type includes sections for Template Configuration, Form Page Configuration, Clauses and Characteristics, SOW Rules, and Worker Rules, each with specific settings to manage the SOW process.
