Controlling Wage Type Permissibility

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to maintain the use of wage types by controlling their permissibility

Wage Type Permissibility

In the IMG, you can determine which wage types can be entered in the different infotypes. Wage type permissibility also allows you to create settings in Customizing to make sure that only certain wage types are permissible for specific infotypes.

If you could select all wage types in all infotypes, it would result in incorrect input data and mean that you are constantly searching for the correct wage type.

If you copy a wage type for an infotype using Create wage type catalog , the system copies all the characteristics belonging to the wage type you are copying. This is also applicable to the wage type permissibility for an infotype.

Wage Type Permissibility for Several Infotypes

For using a wage type in several infotypes, you should enter a key for it in the permissibility tables of the respective infotypes.

Input Frequency for Wage Types in Infotypes

By simply configuring a wage type you can determine whether it can be entered onceormore than once per payroll period. However, you cannot enter a wage type several times in the Basic Pay infotype.

Permissibility of Wage Types for Employee Subgroups or Personnel Subareas

You can use personnel subarea groupings for primary wage types to define wage type permissibility for a specific enterprise structure, or employee subgroup groupings for primary wage types to define wage type permissibility for a personnel structure.

Defining employee subgroups for primary wage types enables you to group your employee subgroups. You can further use these groups to determine which wage types can be entered for which employees.

Personnel Subarea Groupings for Primary Wage Types

You can also group your personnel subareas, which enables you to control the wage type permissibility for each personnel subarea.

You can use both employee subgroups and personnel subareas as the basis for grouping.

Wage Type Permissibility for Each Personnel Subarea and Employee Subgroup

In the last step, you specify whether a wage type is permissible for your personnel subarea grouping and your employee subgroup grouping.

To do this, you can use the criteria Personnel Structure and/or Enterprise Structure.

Confirm Wage Type Permissibility

Business Example

As a personnel administrator working in a company, you need to define wage types for your organization. You need to ensure that only certain wage types are permissible for specific infotypes. To perform this task, you need to select certain wage type criterions to confirm the permissibility.

Check the wage type group and identify the subgroup grouping. Ensure that the permissibility of each wage type for each personnel subarea and employee subgroup has been set up correctly.

Steps

  1. Check the wage type group for Basic Pay to ensure that it contains your new wage types. In addition, check the wage type text so that you can make changes to it, if necessary.

When you create a copy, the system displays all tables that are affected.

    1. In the Project IMG, choose Personnel ManagementPersonnel AdministrationPayroll DataBasic PayWage TypesCheck Wage Type Group Basic Pay.

    2. Check the entries for your wage types ##10, ##20, ##30.

    3. In the Project IMG, choose Personnel ManagementPersonnel AdministrationPayroll DataBasic PayWage TypesCheck Wage Type CatalogCheck Wage Type Text .

    4. Here, you can still make changes to the wage type text.

    5. Return to the Project IMG.

  2. Check the entry permissibility of your wage types for the Basic Pay infotype. Why are your wage types already permitted for this infotype?

    1. In the project IMG, choose Personnel ManagementPersonnel AdministrationPayroll DataBasic PayWage TypesCheck Wage Type CatalogCheck entry permissibility per infotype .

    2. As the reference wage types are already in this table, so are your own wage types (in other words, they are ready for input) (table T512Z).

  3. Identify the employee subgroup grouping for primary wage types assigned to your employee subgroup.

    1. In the Project IMG, choose Personnel ManagementPersonnel AdministrationPayroll DataBasic PayWage TypesEmployee Subgroups for Primary Wage Type .

    2. In the Determine Work Area: Entry dialog box, enter your Country grouping 99.

    3. Select Continue.

    4. Ensure that the EE subgroup grouping 1 (hourly paid) is assigned to your employee subgroup (##) from the active employee group (1).

    5. Save your data and return to the Project IMG.

  4. Make sure that no grouping for primary wage types is assigned to your personnel subarea 0006 in personnel area PA##.

    1. In the Project IMG, choose Personnel ManagementPersonnel AdministrationPayroll DataBasic PayWage TypesPersonnel Subareas for Primary Wage Type.

    2. Check the data and return to the Project IMG.

  5. Ensure that the permissibility of each wage type for each personnel subarea and employee subgroup has been set up correctly for your copied wage types. These wage types should be permitted for the employee assigned to personnel subarea 0006 in personnel area PA## and employee subgroup ##.

    1. In the Project IMG, choose Personnel ManagementPersonnel AdministrationPayroll DataBasic PayWage TypesCheck Wage Type CatalogDefine Wage Type Permissibility for each PS and ESG .

    2. Select wage types ##10, ##20, and ##30, and choose Details. Check that each wage type has the number 1 assigned to it.

    3. Return to the Project IMG.
