After completing this lesson, you will be able to:

  • Manage Reporting and Analytics

Reporting and Analytics

In this lesson, you will learn the reports available for EHS.

SAP EHS Management provides analytical tools for the different levels of the organization - from the operations level to corporate level. Each solution provides a different granularity of the analytical data to support the daily business.

The following solutions and functionalities can be used to analyze the environment, health, and safety data:

  • SAP Analytics Cloud - representation of EHS data is done using SAP Digital Boardroom
  • Analytical Path Framework (APN)
  • Smart Business
  • Regulatory / formatted reporting
  • Data Search / Explore

With this design in mind, we can now take a broader look at how SAP delivers a consistent analytics experience from the top floor to the shop floor based on the SAP HANA in-memory computing platform top to bottom.

Therefore, going from top to bottom, SAP Digital Boardroom equips the executive management team in the boardroom and just any decision maker going for collaborative decision making in a steering meeting, then SAP Analytics Cloud delivers all analytics to the rest of us in one product - with BI, planning and predictive. Finally, when you move to SAP S/4HANA, SAP BW/4HANA and other applications, you get insights directly embedded into business processes for SAP users to access these insights at the point of decision with SAP S/4HANA embedded analytics, SAP Fiori integration, and predefined best practice reports and visualizations built with SAP Analytics Cloud.

Only SAP, and the SAP HANA in-memory computing platform, offers users alignment across lines of business and insights from the top floor to the shop floor.

Data Search and Explore Tools in SAP EHS

Enterprise Search

SAP HANA enterprise search is a powerful search solution that provides full-text search, navigation, and access to structured and unstructured information across multiple systems.

Search / Hitlists

Most of the EHS processes provide a search / hitlist screen where custom filters can be set and saved. The results can be clicked on to open the record or exported to MS Excel.

Data Explorer

There are multiple Data Explorer options that provide enhanced filter and hitlist functionality, along with real-time views and the ability to save filters and export to Excel.

SAP EHS utilizes Adobe Interactive Form technology to provide pushbutton report outputs specific to certain regulations or steps in the business process. This allows customers to further customize or build additional formatted report outputs as needed. Furthermore, SAP EHS has electronic submittal functionality for the OSHA 300A.

Standard forms include the following:

  • OSHA 301
  • OSHA 300
  • OSHA 300A
  • First Report of Injury
  • German Incident Form
  • Investigation Summary
  • Job Safety Analysis
  • Exposure Communication Letter

In addition, regulatory forms are available as part of accelerator packages from the SAP partner ecosystem. These include forms for UK RIDDOR, France, Austria, China, and Canada.

Reporting and Analytics has the objective of providing reusable components that allow users to easily build interactive and role-based analytical views.

The solution provides the following capabilities:

  • Interactive, drill-down views and charts controlled by the same authorization model as the rest of the SAP enterprise system
  • Designed to work on desktops or tablets
  • Detailed analysis based on very granular views of the dataset
  • Analysis path steps can be saved and shared
  • Final report views can be saved as a PDF and the raw data can be exported to MS Excel

APF-based applications enable business users to flexibly explore KPIs and their influencing factors by drilling down into multi-dimensional visualizations of data, such as charts or tables.

The Analytics work area consists of two main areas:

  1. Selection area with selection parameters: The selection area has the following data - plant / object, time scale, date from and date to parameters.
  2. Result area: In the result area, the graphical representation of the results are displayed as bar chart, pie chart, or line chart.

The objective of the Embedded Analytics - Smart Business is to provide real-time and embedded dashboard functionality for SAP transactional applications that combine pre-defined and flexible views at various points in the business process.

The solution provides the following capabilities:

  • Its interactive, drill-down views and dashboards are controlled by the same role-based authorization model as the rest of the SAP enterprise system.
  • It is designed to work on desktops or tablets.
  • It uses high-level smart filters.
  • Secondary facet filters provide reusable multi-dimensional views.
  • All views are shown and updated in real-time.
  • All views are available to be shown within the user's Fiori Launchpad tiles.

One of the biggest benefits for customers is the way authorized users at all levels receive real-time analysis and insight from business processes across the enterprise.

SAP Analytics Cloud has the objective of providing a single experience for decision-making that allows users to discover, visualize, plan, and predict, all in one place.

The solution provides the following capabilities:

  • Interactive dashboards controlled by the same role-based authorization model as the rest of the SAP enterprise system.
  • Clean and model your data with first-class data wrangling functionality.
  • Connection to on-premise and cloud data sources across all lines of business, with either Live or Import Data connections.
  • Machine learning helps to enhance your data even faster by suggesting transformations and automating workflows.

The main benefits are as follows:

  • It gives executives a complete, real-time view of company situations and key figures across departments - and fosters trust among leaders.
  • It blends data from different sources, creates compelling data visualizations, runs ad-hoc reporting, and more.

SAP Analytics Cloud Platform

Our vision for SAP Analytics Cloud is to connect to both on-premise and Cloud data sources and applications. SAP Analytics Cloud is a SaaS platform and is separated into four areas:

  1. Core Capabilities - The first layer are core capabilities that are included in all Analytic capabilities and applications such as Data connectivity and Modeling, Administration and Auditing, Story Experience, and Collaboration. Data Wrangling, Mobile access, and APIs are planned for 1H 2017.
  2. Analytic Capabilities - The second layer are our three analytical capabilities: BI, Planning, and Predictive. No other competitors have all these Analytic capabilities.
  3. Embedding Capabilities - SAP is building APIs to integrate and embed Analytics Cloud into SAP, third party, and customer applications.
  4. Applications - The third and top layer are the Analytical applications. SAP Digital Boardroom is an example of an Analytics Cloud application. SAP and our partners continue to look at building additional analytical applications and content that can be consumed on the SAP App Center.

The following figures provide you with examples of what the SAP Analytics Cloud Platform for EHS look like in operation.

An example of this is as follows: a board meeting, which includes reporting of Environment, Health and Safety results of a company.

An overview of incidents, near misses, and safety observations.

The numbers of lost workdays by plant resulting from incidents.

The numbers of lost workdays and fatalities by plant resulting from incidents.

An overview about greenhouse gas emissions by business unit.

An overview about risks, categorized by location and by products, as well as an indicator of the status of their risk level and hazard category.

A financial view on different EHS-related projects and their costs.

SAP Digital Boardroom

The objective of SAP Digital Boardroom is to equip C-level executives with real-time contextual information and ad-hoc analysis.

The solution provides the following capabilities:
