A possible product development scenario could take place for a standard material or a configurable material.
For a standard material you have to define a standard classification, a standard material BOM and a standard routing.

Process Flow: Configurable Material
Working with a configurable material, the situation is different in comparison to a standard material.
Two possible scenarios exist:
- A configurable material, a material BOM and a routing exist and you do the configuration
- You are in an early product development stage without having master data and you do the configuration
