Understanding Master Data

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the configurations of common settings required to import master data in SAP Ariba Procurement or Sourcing.

Understanding Master Data

Working with master data in SAP Ariba solutions involves managing essential information that forms the foundation for various procurement and sourcing processes. Master data includes critical business information such as organizational detail, supplier details, accounting information, product information, and other foundational data required for transactions. Such accurate data contributes to effective procurement and sourcing decisions, so maintaining consistency in master data is essential to avoid errors and discrepancies in procurement processes.

This data resides in the SAP ECC or SAP S/4HANA system and is used by SAP Ariba to facilitate efficient procurement and sourcing activities. Master data is crucial for accurate and streamlined business processes within SAP Ariba solutions. It ensures that relevant information is consistently used across transactions, leading to improved data accuracy and decision-making.

In this course, we'll look into the common configurations required to import master data in any of the SAP Ariba Solutions – SAP Ariba Buying and Invoicing or SAP Ariba Sourcing.

Configurations are necessary to import master data perfectly into SAP Ariba Solutions. These settings involve defining parameters for data integration and establishing connections between SAP ECC or SAP S/4HANA and SAP Ariba. For buyers using Managed Gateway for Spend and Network, the integration of master data from the SAP ECC or SAP S/4HANA to SAP Ariba solutions can be achieved seamlessly through two options:

  • Full Load
  • Incremental Load

Full Load involves importing the entire set of master data from SAP ECC or SAP S/4HANA to SAP Ariba solutions. It’s typically used for initial data migration or when a comprehensive update is required.

Incremental Load involves importing only the changes or additions to the existing master data. It's suitable for ongoing updates and ensures an efficient use of resources.

Note

In master data integration using Managed Gateway for Spend and Network, the source of truth is always your SAP ECC or SAP S/4HANA. Users should create the required master data records in the SAP ECC or SAP S/4HANA and import the desired objects into SAP Ariba solutions via delivered programs in Add-On for SAP Integration Suite, managed gateway for spend management and SAP Business Network.

Managed Gateway for Spend and Network supports customized master data. If you have customized events on your SAP Ariba solutions for master data, ensure that you maintain the necessary configurations in SAP ECC or SAP S/4HANA on-premise to process the master data.
