Introduction to Maintenance Resource Scheduling (43R)
As a maintenance planner, it is important to monitor and manage work center utilization effectively. Resource scheduling provides you with insights into the maintenance workload and available capacity for current and upcoming maintenance activities. You can use the resource scheduling apps to check current and forecasted work center utilization, build schedules, and determine required capacities before dispatching the scheduled work. Resource scheduling provides you with insights into your maintenance workload and available capacities for current and upcoming maintenance activities. Use the apps for resource scheduling to check current and forecast work center utilization, build schedules, and determine required capacities before dispatching the scheduled work.
With the resource scheduling apps you can:
Monitor Key Figures for Work Center
Monitor work center utilization and the number and priority of maintenance orders that you need to work on.
Analyze Work Center Utilization
Show utilization details for your work center
Manage Work Center Utilization
Level work center utilization by dispatching or changing individual order operations.
Schedule Maintenance Order Operations
Create one or more schedules for a specific target week and dispatch order operations based on the forecasted work center utilization. Track schedule execution and monitor attainment once the target week has started.
Assign Operations to Person Responsible
Assign maintenance workers to maintenance order operations.
Key Process Flow
Analyze maintenance workload and capacities
Simulate and schedule maintenance work order operations
Track if maintenance is executed as scheduled
Business Benefits
The Key business benefits are:
Gain insights into current and forecast workloads
Identify due and overdue maintenance orders quickly and build an optimal schedule before dispatching maintenance order operations for executionOptimize the use of maintenance resources
Control weekly maintenance workloads by adjusting the scope of your schedule and distribute the work evenly across your work centers.Reduce asset downtime and increase productivity
Group and schedule maintenance orders by asset, consider work that requires planned downtime, and identify relationships between order operations
Basic Concepts: SAP Maintenance Resource Scheduling
Concept | Definition |
---|---|
Display time period | The time period for which data is shown in the apps. |
Explicit relationship | A relationship between order operations that is explicitly defined by a maintenance planner. |
Implicit relationship | A relationship between the operations included in a maintenance order that is determined based on the operation number. Implicit relationships are used by the apps if no explicit relationships are defined in the order. |
Assigning Operations to Individuals | There are two ways in which you can assign operations to individuals
|
Processing status | An attribute indicating the stage in the planning and scheduling process for a maintenance order, order operation, or sub-operation. |
Schedule | A worklist that includes the maintenance work to be executed in a specific time period. In resource scheduling, there are two types of schedules:
|
Schedule attainment | The ratio of the work that was planned for the schedule and the work that was completed as planned in the schedule period. |
Scheduling logic | The algorithm based on which the app determines the scheduling sequence for maintenance order operations and finds a time slot for each operation. |
Schedule status | An attribute indicating the stage in the planning and scheduling process for a schedule. |
User status | A status set by the user to complement system statuses set at order header level or operation level. If any user statuses have been maintained in a maintenance order, they are displayed in the following apps
|
Utilization forecast | A chart that shows the forecasted work center utilization for the schedule period. |
Work center | An organizational unit that defines where and by whom a maintenance activity is performed. In the resource scheduling apps, maintenance work centers and production work centers are shown. |
Work center team | Team of people that are assigned to a performing work center. |
Work center utilization | The ratio in percent between the available work center capacity and the hours of work required by the maintenance order operations and maintenance plans that are assigned to a work center. |
Resource | A person or work center that can be assigned to a maintenance order or order operation. |
Business Roles and Catalogs
To grant the required authorizations to app users, you assign business roles to them. Use the delivered business role as a template for creating your own roles and add the required business catalogs.
Depending on how maintenance planning and scheduling is set up in your organization, you can create multiple business roles based on the role template Maintenance Planner - Resource Scheduling(SAP_BR_MAINTENANCE_PLANNER_RSH) and assign the required business catalogs to each role.
The role template Maintenance Planner - Resource Scheduling(SAP_BR_MAINTENANCE_PLANNER_RSH) contains the following predefined business catalogs:
- EAM - Resource Scheduling for Maintenance Planners (SAP_RSH_BC_MPLAN_OV)
- EAM - Resource Scheduling for Maintenance Reviewers (SAP_RSH_BC_MAINT_REVIEWER)
- EAM - Maintenance Work Center Teams (SAP_EAM_BC_MAINT_TEAM)
Fiori Apps for Resource Scheduling
Resource scheduling consists of several apps that allow you, as a maintenance planner, to monitor and manage the utilization of your work centers, schedule maintenance order operations, and assign order operations to a person responsible.
- Resource Scheduling for Maintenance PlannerThis app allows you to monitor important KPIs for your work centers.
- Manage Work Center UtilizationThis app allows you to analyze and manage the utilization of your work centers.
- Manage SchedulesThis app allows you to set up and monitor schedules including the maintenance order operations that you want to dispatch for the target week.
- Maintenance Scheduling BoardThis app allows you to visualize on a time-line the maintenance orders, order operations, and sub-operations in your work centers.
- View Maintenance Schedule for AssetsThis app allows you to view functional locations and pieces of equipment in their hierarchical structure. A Gantt chart shows you when an asset is under maintenance and whether asset downtime is required.
- Assign Maintenance Order OperationWith this app, you can assign maintenance order operations to a person responsible. You can also change or delete assignments.
Note
All apps contain in-app help for key fields or screen areas.
Apps for Key Users
The Verify Usage Measurementapp allows a key user (for example, an administrator) to view the actual usage of capacities for each work center in the current tenant/client
Using the Manage Teams and Responsibilities – Asset Management app, authorized maintenance planners or maintenance coordinators can set up and manage maintenance teams for work centers.
