The starting point of any transportation process is transportation requirements. The document that represents a transportation requirement in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition is called freight unit. Freight units can get created based on different objects/documents depending on whether the basic process is an inbound, outbound, or stock transport process.
The following base processes can create freight units:
- Sell from Stock (BD9)
- Sales Scheduling Agreements (3NR)
- Direct Procurement with Inbound Delivery (2TX)
- Stock Transfer with Delivery (BME)
- Lean Customer Returns (BDD)
- Return to Supplier (BMK)
- Warehouse Outbound Processing (3BS)
- Advanced Intercompany Sales (5D2)
- Advanced Intercompany Stock Transfer (5HP)
Next, watch the following two simulations to see how the sales orders and purchase orders can create transportation requirements in the system.
Create Transportation Requirements from Sales Orders
The first simulation shows how to create transportation requirements from sales orders. The creation of a sales order is done by a user with role internal sales representative. Sales order creation is part of the scope item Sell from Stock (BD9). You can find out the freight unit number after the creation of the sales order by displaying the sales order and checking the document flow. Whenever transportation-relevant information is changed in the sales order, it leads to an update of the freight unit.
Create Transportation Requirements from Purchase Orders
The second simulation shows how to create transportation requirements from purchase orders. The creation of a purchase order is done by a user with role purchaser. Purchase order creation is part of the scope item Direct Procurement with Inbound Delivery (2TX). You can find out the freight unit number after the creation of the purchase order by displaying the purchase order, navigating to the TM Status tab and choosing the document flow. Whenever transportation-relevant information is changed in the purchase order, it leads to an update of the freight unit.
Create Transportation Requirements from Stock Transport Orders
In a stock transport process freight units are created based on stock transport orders. The creation of a stock transport order is done by a user with role purchaser. Stock transport order creation is part of the scope item Stock Transfer with Delivery (BME). You can find out the freight unit number after the creation of the stock transport order by displaying the stock transport order, navigating to the TM Status tab and choosing the document flow. Whenever transportation-relevant information is changed in the stock transport order, it leads to an update of the freight unit.
