Major and New Content in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, Warehouse Management

With the development of SAP S/4HANA Cloud Warehouse Management, several major improvements were made in the core solution over time to enable more flexible, configurable business processes.

Recent Major Improvements in SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, Warehouse Management

Enhanced configuration for packaging in Warehouse Management

With the release 2408, new configuration objects or configuration items for making settings related to packaging in Warehouse Management (WM) have been added to your configuration environment:

The screenshot illustrates the configuration activity Maintain Packaging Material Types to setup packaging material in Warehouse Management.

  • Maintain Packaging Material Types

In the past, you had to configure the packaging material type in the LO-HU area and afterwards in Warehouse Management (two steps). Now we have one single configuration activity that combines both steps. This configuration activity simplifies the maintenance of packaging material types. This configuration activity exists in the LO-HU area and in Warehouse Management. To reflect this, the configuration activity, Maintain Packaging Material Types (Logistics General) was renamed to Maintain Packaging Material Types.

  • Automatically Generate Packaging Items for Outbound Delivery Orders

You can define parameters that the system uses during automatic packaging item generation in the outbound process.

Delivery Split for Outbound Delivery Order

This feature enables you to split packed and unpacked items, quantities, or handling units (HUs) from an existing outbound delivery order into a new outbound delivery order.

The screenshot shows a warehouse document item and highlights the display of the assignes purchase order number and the item number.

Use this feature to remove parts of an outbound delivery order that, for example, are not ready to be shipped or for which there is no space on the transport, by splitting those parts into a new outbound delivery order. You can split the outbound delivery order either before or after warehouse processing has started with created or confirmed warehouse tasks. Access this feature through the Warehouse Monitor.

Indicate Purchase Order in Goods Receipt and Putaway Warehouse Task Creation

With this feature, you can view the purchase order in the goods receipt document and the putaway warehouse task document. You can also use purchase orders to influence the putaway strategy during warehouse task creation.

Partial Goods Receipt for Handling Units

With this feature, you can post goods receipt for one or several handling units (HUs) that belong to the same delivery. You can post goods receipt for parts of the inbound delivery that are packed into HUs (Partial Goods Receipt).

The screenshot shows the app Warehouse Monitor displaying an inbound delivery with Handling Units. The action Goods Receipt is selected for one of the Handling Units.

You can access this feature through the Warehouse Monitor. Two new functions are available on the level of the Handling Unit node:

  • Goods Receipt: This function posts goods receipt for one or more HUs.
  • Reverse Goods Receipt: This function reverses goods receipt for one or more HUs.

This feature is also available when you use radio frequency (RF) devices to carry out warehouse activities.

There is a new PostGoodsReceipt action on the Handling Unit API. In a storage location managed with the Warehouse Management (WM) application component, you can post goods receipt for an inbound delivery that is linked to an HU by a reference document. You use the http method POST to call the PostGoodsReceipt function import.

Changes to Identity Access Management (IAM)

Changes to identity and access management (IAM) objects have been delivered for Warehouse Management.

  • WM-Advanced Production Integration: The restrictions for the value help access have been enhanced by the restriction types Warehouse Number and Class Type.
  • WM-Warehouse Setup: The Determine Goods Movement Bin app has been added to the corresponding business catalog SAP_SCM_BC_EWM_MD_WHSE_PC.
