Using the Migration Manager

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to describe the purpose and functionality of the Migration Manager.

Migration Manager Tool

The Migration Manager is a tool that allows implementors to migrate configurations from one environment to another; for example, from a development or test environment to a production environment. You can also use this tool to export records such as users and cases and do bulk updates.

All of the components that we have created in this course can be migrated, and many more. Some examples of components to migrate include departments, user types, custom fields, notifications, email templates, and workflows. A full list of components can be found in the online help.

Two export types are available: Binary files (WFB) and Text. WFB should be selected any time you are exporting components to migrate; text files are for information and documentation only and cannot be used for migration.
