Understanding S-Users and SAP for Me

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to identify how to access resources within the SAP landscape, including the use of S-user ID, SAP Universal ID, and SAP for Me.

Prelude

When an SAP contract is finalized, the customer nominates a Technical Administrator (also called IT Contact), who will:

  • Receive all communications to access their SAP product (including provisioning and welcome e-mails).
  • Be allocated the first S-user ID.

    Note

SAP creates the first S-user ID only and assigns it the highest level of authorization, which makes it a so-called "Super Administrator" (Super Admin) or, in case of an already existing SAP cloud customer, a "Cloud Administrator" (Cloud Admin). The Super/Cloud Administrator is responsible for assigning additional S-user IDs to those within their organization.

If your company is a new SAP customer and does not have any S-users yet, the IT Contact will receive an e-mail with their new S-user ID credentials as a Super Admin.

S-user ID

1. What is an S-user ID?

An S-user ID is a unique SAP identification required to access SAP resources reserved for SAP customers and partners, such as SAP for Me, case management, product documentation, training courses, and software downloads. The S-user ID contains the letter ‘S’ followed by 10 numbers (e.g. S1234567890).

2. Don't Have an S-user ID?

The Super Admin or Cloud Admin is the S-user responsible for creating new S-user IDs and maintaining authorizations for all S-users.

Once the new S-user ID is requested, the user will receive an e-mail with an activation link, which is valid for 10 days.

If you haven't received the S-user ID e-mail or don't know who in your company can create it for you, you can either:

Hint

If there is no Super Admin assigned to your company or the initial access information is lost, then you can use the User Onboarding Token. This is a digital code found on the SAP contract (available for cloud products) that can be used by anyone at the customer to identify the IT Contact and create a Super Admin.

Note: A token becomes active and can be used as soon as the customer receives the sales order. It can be used only once and must be utilized within two months of its creation.

For more information, visit the User Onboarding Token support page.

Additional Information

SAP Universal ID

An SAP Universal ID provides easier access to SAP sites and serves as a wallet for managing your SAP user identities. With an SAP Universal ID, you have one single SAP account for life. It gives you the ability to log in once and choose between your SAP user identities, enabling you to easily switch between S-user IDs and manage your account profile.

With an SAP Universal ID, you can:

  • Take control of your experience: Own and manage your personal SAP identity.
  • Keep your account for life: Use it wherever you go, regardless of where you work.
  • Use one login for all your accounts: Manage one account and password by linking all your existing company accounts (S-user IDs) into one universal account.
  • Preserve your achievements: Maintain your training completions, certifications, and contributions to SAP community forums and discussions, even when you switch organizations or change your e-mail.

Note

SAP Universal IDs are to be created by individual users, and not their company’s Super/Cloud Administrator.

Steps to Create the SAP Universal ID

  1. Access Request an SAP Universal ID, click "Get Started", and fill in the information prompted on the screen. Information needed to connect your S-User ID to your SAP Universal ID.
  2. After completing the form, you will receive a verification code via e-mail, which must be entered within 15 minutes.
  3. With your new SAP Universal ID, linked to a valid S-user ID, you can now access SAP resources such as SAP for Me portal, SAP Community, SAP training courses and more.
  4. Alternatively, follow the instructions in this video.

Note

If you already have an SAP Universal ID, the list of linked S-user IDs will appear when you click on the link provided above. You can use the + Link additional accounts option at the bottom of the screen to link additional S-user IDs if needed.

Conclusion

Having an S-user ID provides access to SAP for Me, the single entry point to manage and monitor all SAP licenses and information related to SAP. An S-user ID is required to access gated information on the SAP Support Portal, join discussions in the SAP Community, book an SAP training course, or download product documentation.
