Implementing Data Space Enablement Strategies

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to implement the foundational elements required to enable secure data spaces in Catena-X.

Data Space Enablement

The SAP Integration Suite is a comprehensive hybrid integration platform designed to support organizations in building an intelligent enterprise. Its core purpose is to:

  • Integrate everything: Unifying data, processes, and applications from diverse sources such as on-premises systems, cloud services, mobile apps, third-party applications, and more.
  • Accelerate connectivity: Providing prebuilt integrations, APIs, data graphs, and connectors to both SAP and non-SAP systems, enabling quick and efficient connectivity across the organization.
  • Connect everyone: Facilitating seamless collaboration and data exchange among employees, customers, trading partners, and government agencies.

Key Capabilities include:

  • Application integration
  • API management
  • Business-to-business integration
  • Event-driven architecture
  • Regulatory compliance
  • Guided integration practices

Accelerators are included to speed up deployment and value realization, with features such as:

  • Prebuilt integrations
  • APIs & data graphs
  • Business event management
  • AI-assisted integrations
  • Industry standards and business process maps

The platform is highly versatile, supporting various deployment models (hybrid, public cloud, private cloud, and on-premises) and integrating with a wide ecosystem including AI platforms, automation tools, data hubs, trading partners, and governments.

Data Space Integration is a capability within the SAP Integration Suite that allows licensed customers to conveniently, securely, and independently manage and exchange data space assets in decentralized data spaces.

Key points:

  • Activation: Data Space Integration can be enabled by customers with SAP Integration Suite licenses.
  • Control Plane: Acts as the component for discovering, managing, and monitoring data exchange activities.
  • Data Plane: Cloud Integration is utilized as the data plane to facilitate data exchange and straightforward integration with SAP applications.

The architecture includes a control plane and data plane within SAP’s Data Space Integration, which interacts with third-party Eclipse data space components for:

  • Discovery
  • Contract negotiation
  • Data exchange

This setup enables seamless and secure integration and collaboration between SAP (and non-SAP) applications and external business applications through standardized data space processes.

Data Space Integration supports multiple use cases within the Catena-X network, including:

  • Parts traceability
  • Carbon footprint management
  • Quality management
  • Demand and capacity management
  • Circular economy management
  • Supply chain compliance and incident management
  • Digital twin

Certification by Catena-X

  • Cross-company interactions are built on mutual trust.
  • Certification is based on Catena-X standards to ensure transparency and reliability.
  • The major principles of Catena-X are incorporated into certified components.
