Displaying and Navigating in your Document

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to use the available controls to display and navigate within a Web Intelligence document.

Navigation and Display Controls

When you open a Web Intelligence document with a reader profile, you can perform navigation actions.

The default user interface includes these elements:

  • The Main toolbar has four sections: File, Query, Analyze, and Display.
  • The Main panel has six sections: Sort, Ranking, Report Map, Comments, Document Properties, and Prompts.
Main toolbar offers file, query, analyze, and display options, while main panel provides general, statistics, document, and data options.

Freeze Header

Freeze header lets you keep the headers of a table (vertical, horizontal, or cross table) visible at the top of the report as you scroll.

To enable freeze header for:

  • All tables in the report, click the Freeze Headers button on the toolbar.
  • An individual table and set the number of rows or columns to freeze, right-click the table and select Freeze Header from the context menu. The Freeze Header dialog box opens, where you can set these options.
The highlighted “Freeze Header” icon in the toolbar and next to the margin table allows freezing the table header.

Fold/Unfold

Fold and Unfold lets you expand or collapse sections, tables, or breaks in your report.

This feature is useful for large datasets. It gives you a cleaner view while keeping details available.

Sales revenue for 2023 and 2024 appears in bold with values $8,096,124 and $13,232,246, while 2025 data is expanded by quarter.

Presentation Mode

In Presentation mode, you can set how often to refresh queries and which reports to cycle through. This is useful for dashboard documents where you need to monitor data often.

Presentation Mode settings panel enables automatic refresh every 10 minutes, switches reports every 5 seconds, and has Report 1 selected for display.

Click the Presentation mode button in the Display section of the toolbar.

The Presentation Mode dialog box opens with these options:

ParameterDescription
Auto-refresh every

Set how often to refresh data.

Switch reports after

Display in full screen

Choose whether to show the report in full screen.

Show reports tabs

Choose whether to show or hide report tabs in the toolbar.

Show refresh bar

Choose whether to show or hide the refresh bar in the toolbar. The refresh bar shows the date and time of the last refresh.

Maximizing Charts

When you maximize a chart or custom element using the Maximize button in the floating toolbar, a navigation window appears in the top-right corner of the chart. This window shows a full preview and the zoom area of the chart.

You can click this window to move the zoom area or drag it to reposition.

To show or hide this window, click the Show or Hide Navigation button in the floating toolbar.

In the floating toolbar, you can also use the Zoom In and Zoom Out buttons to set the zoom level.

Four vertical chart navigation buttons—reset, pan, zoom in, and zoom out—appear highlighted on the right side of a sales revenue line graph.

Vanishing Toolbar

Web Intelligence shows a Vanishing toolbar at the bottom of the screen, in addition to the Main toolbar at the top.

The Vanishing toolbar helps you navigate and view report pages. It includes a page browser, zoom controls, and display options to change the report layout.

You can switch between Page mode (shows the report as it prints) and Quick Display mode (continuous scroll). You can also use the Fit to Width and Fit to Page buttons to resize the report for easier viewing.

Pagination controls at the bottom center allow navigation between three report pages, with page one currently selected.

Vanishing toolbar features in Reading mode:

Shortcuts

Keyboard shortcuts in Web Intelligence are key combinations you can use to perform common actions quickly. For example, you can use Control and C to copy text.

Shortcuts help you save time and work more efficiently. You can use them for tasks such as saving your work (Ctrl and S), undoing a change (Ctrl and Z), or copying and pasting report elements (Ctrl and C and Ctrl and V).

The following table lists some examples:

Display and Navigate with a Document

Business Example

Your manager asks you to review regional and annual sales data for patterns and recent trends. You will explore various sections and breaks in the documents, adjust views for better analysis, and focus specifically on sales activity for week 50. Use the document features to efficiently navigate, view, and analyze the required data.
