Creating a Formula KPI in a Tile or Card

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to add a formula into a KPI in cards and tiles for better alignment with evolving goals.

How to Add a Formula into a KPI in a General Overview Card

You can use mathematical formulas to calculate KPI values on:

  • Manually saved home page tiles
  • Graphical cards across all card views, including:
    • Card view visualization in list views
    • General Overview

This feature allows you to apply arithmetical operators (such as +, -, *, /) and simple numeric functions. The measure fields you select from the data source of a card or tile act as variables within your formula.

In the following video, Adele, a sales manager at OEC computers will show you how she:

  • Adds a card to the General Overview that sums up the sales filtered for the current year by using the A/R Invoices data source filtered by Posting Date = this year.
  • Adds a KPI to this card that shows the open balance for these invoices by adding a formula KPI that subtracts the invoices Paid Sum from the Document Total.
Edit Card window highlighting the KPI Formula field and the Adapt Filters tab.

To learn more about KPI details refer to the ‘Add a card’ section in Card View | SAP Help Portal.

Summary

  • Mathematical formulas can be used to calculate KPI values on cards and home page tiles.
  • Formula KPIs allow you to combine measure fields using basic arithmetic and numeric functions.
  • You can add cards to various views, filter data, and define custom KPIs for specific business needs.
  • KPI results display in a clear, concise format with metric prefixes and rounding for easy interpretation.
  • Descriptive KPI labels help clarify the meaning and context of each calculated value.
