Configuring the SOW Template Details

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to configure the foundational details of an SOW Template, including associating SOW Types.

SOW Template Creation

While the process of creating a Statement of Work is carried out across multiple separate pages, creating an SOW Template is configured all on one page, though the template is divided into multiple sections.

The Add New SOW Template page, displaying the sections where general details, Clauses, SOW Custom Fields, and SOW Rules are entered. Each contains a combination of text fields, checkboxes, and radio buttons for configuring the fields listed under each. The clauses listed in the Clauses section also display slider bars to allow them to be repositioned.

Statement of Work Details

The first section of the SOW Template is where certain aspects of the SOW creation workflow are set, such as whether the template should be associated all Business Units, whether it can be used to create an SOW Bid, and what currencies can be used on the statement of work.

Clauses section

Specific clauses can be added to SOW Templates so they automatically apply by default when creating an SOW.

Custom Fields section

Custom fields can be added to the main SOW or its Characteristics and configured as required, optional, prepopulated, or defaulted to support reporting needs.

Rules section

SOW Templates rely heavily on rules defined to control not only the workflow of the SOW overall, but also how characteristics and SOW workers can be configured when a statement of work is being created, as well as how revisions are handled after the SOW is confirmed.

Configure the SOW Template Details

WorkingNet Networking, Inc., a global manufacturer of data networking equipment, is building several new distribution centers in several countries, while simultaneously implementing new logistics software and processes.

Their first new distribution center is being built in a suburb of Atlanta, so WorkingNet will use the new Atlanta hub as their base of operations. They're going to engage CarryAll Consulting, a logistics design and implementation firm, to both help streamline their logistics processes as well as implement the new software.

In order to engage CarryAll, WorkingNet will use SAP Fieldglass to create the statement of work. However, they've never engaged a services provider for this type of work before, so WorkingNet will need to build a new SOW Template to accommodate this project.

As the SAP Fieldglass admin for WorkingNet, creating the SOW Template is your responsibility.

You'll first set the foundation of the SOW template by selecting the SOW Type and configuring the Statement of Work section.

Summary

The creation of an SOW Template is carried across a single page with multiple sections which define the details, configurations, custom fields, and rules for statements of work created from it.

Key Points:

  • Workflow Options: Includes choosing whether the buyer, supplier, or both define the SOW, if the template can create a Master SOW, and currencies.
  • AI Enhancement: Utilize AI functionality to enhance the SOW description for better clarity and requirements definition.
