Configuring Home Screen Cards in SAP Analytics Cloud

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to configure the display and content of home screen cards in SAP Analytics Cloud to optimize user access to information

Tailoring the SAP Analytics Cloud Home Screen with Cards

The Home screen in SAP Analytics Cloud serves as a personalized dashboard, providing users with quick access to relevant content and functionality. As a system administrator, you can modify the overall appearance and content of this Home screen by managing the cards displayed. This customization ensures that new and existing users receive a consistent, optimized experience, presenting them with the most pertinent information from the start. Individual users retain the flexibility to further personalize their own Home screen settings, but the administrator's configuration sets the default and ensures a baseline experience.

Accessing Home Screen Card Settings

To begin customizing the Home screen cards, you must navigate to the system administration area. This is where all global display settings for your SAP Analytics Cloud tenant are managed.

  1. From the side navigation menu, choose System ﹥ Administration.

  2. Select the Default Appearance tab.

  3. Within this tab, locate the sections dedicated to Home screen settings and cards.

Managing General Home Screen Card Display

The Default Appearance tab provides options to control which cards are visible and how the Home screen initially loads for users.

  • Default Tab Selection: You can specify which tab appears on the Home screen when users first log in. Options typically include Today, Catalog, Favorites, or Shared With Me, allowing you to prioritize certain content types.

  • Enabling and Disabling Cards: In the Home Screen Cards section, you will find a list of available cards. For each card, you can toggle a switch to turn it on or off. Turning a card on makes it visible by default on the Home screen, while turning it off hides it. This allows you to remove cards that are not relevant to your organization's users and highlight those that are. The available cards include:

    • Administrative Actions

    • Calendar Highlights

    • Custom

    • Data Change insights

    • Favorites

    • Features Files

    • Just Ask

    • My Metrics

    • Onboarding

    • Quick Actions

    • Recent Files

    • Resources

    • SAP Analytics Cloud Blog

    • System Monitor

Customizing the Resources Card

The Resources card is a powerful tool for providing users with quick links to important internal or external resources. As an administrator, you can fully customize the content of this card.

  1. To customize, select the Edit Resources Card option.

  2. Adding Resources:

    • Currently Available Resources: You can add pre-defined resources by selecting Add Currently Available Resources and checking the desired items from a list.
    • Custom Resources: For unique links, select Add Custom Resource. Here, you can define a resource title, a subtitle, and a specific link (URL). Optionally, you can upload an image (PNG, GIF, BMP, JPEG, JPG, or JPE format, max 1 MB) to visually represent the resource. After entering the mandatory fields, select Create. You can add up to 10 custom resources.
  3. Removing Resources: You can remove individual items by selecting the Remove icon next to them in the list of selected resources.

Alternatively, you can uncheck resources from the list of available existing resources to remove them.

  4. Reordering Resources: The order in which resources appear can be adjusted to prioritize certain links.

  5. Locking the Resources Card: You have the option to Lock card on home screen. If enabled, this locks the Resources card to the top-left corner of the Home screen, preventing users from hiding or moving it.

  6. Resetting the Card: If you wish to revert all changes and restore the Resources card to its default state, select the Reset option. Be aware that this will remove all custom resources you have created.

Creating a Custom Card

Beyond the pre-defined options, SAP Analytics Cloud allows administrators to create entirely custom cards. These cards provide a flexible way to display important announcements, instructions, or any other free-form content directly on the Home screen.

  1. Select Add Custom Card.

  2. Adding Content:

    • Rich Text Editor: Use the rich text editor to enter up to 800 characters of text. You can customize the font, text size, and paragraph style, and even insert links.
    • Image Upload: Upload an image file (PNG, GIF, BMP, JPEG, JPG, or JPE format, max 1 MB) to accompany your text.
Create Custom Card dialog with rich text editing and image upload options.
  3. Tagging the Card: Choose a Tag Type from the drop-down menu. Options include Information, Positive, Critical, Negative, Neutral, or (Not Selected). This tag provides a visual indicator of the card's nature.

Optionally, change the Tag Text (up to 26 characters) to provide a concise label for the card.

  4. Locking the Custom Card: Similar to the Resources card, you can Lock card on home screen to fix its position and prevent users from hiding or moving it.

  5. Review and Save: After configuring the card, review the preview and choose Save. Custom cards can be edited or deleted at any time.

Create Custom Card dialog with tag selection, lock card option, preview panel, and Save button.

Administrative-Specific Cards

Certain cards are designed specifically for administrative roles, providing insights and actions relevant to system management. These include:

  • Administrative Actions: This card keeps administrators informed about critical updates and potential system issues, such as performance-impacting queries, statistics on open stories, log-on times, data actions, and import jobs that take longer to process. It also includes version analysis, classic stories needing conversion, and model size analysis.

  • System Monitor: This card allows administrators to monitor and analyze system usage, including licensing information, content information, and legacy content usage information.

These administrative cards are only available to users with appropriate administrative roles (e.g., Admin and BI Admin standard application roles).

It is important to note that while you, as the administrator, set the default appearance for the Home screen, individual users can override these customized appearances. Users can access their profile in the shell bar and modify their own Home Screen Settings to suit their personal preferences. Your global settings will apply to new users and serve as the baseline for existing users who have not made their own customizations.
