Objective
After completing this lesson, you will be able to articulate an introduction to the SAP Cloud Integration Gateway.
Integration Basics: Traditional Integration Challenges
- Complex
- Cumbersome, costly, inefficient, and difficult to maintain integration processes.
- Dependencies
- Dependency and need for lot of assistance for initial deployment and upgrades.
- Long deployment cycles
- Long deployment cycles with varied integration requirements and challenging upgrades can be very time consuming.
SAP Ariba Cloud Integration Gateway: Solves Traditional Challenges
SAP Ariba Cloud Integration Gateway (CIG), enabled by SAP Cloud Platform Integration, overcomes these traditional challenges. CIG provides a fast, simple way to connect SAP Ariba solutions to SAP back-end systems.
- Simple
- Single gateway to integrate all your applications
- Simple steps to integrate - Configure, Extend, and Test
- Self-Service
- Do-it-Yourself (DIY) integration with Automated Testing
- Self Service Wizard to manage the integration process using wizard based step by step guidance
- Speed
- Shorter deployment times with Automated Testing and Embedded Monitoring

Integrating Buyers and Suppliers
Integration Value
| # Index | Description |
|---|
| 1 | SAP® Ariba® Cloud Integration Gateway delivers powerful features and functionality that make integration faster and easier than ever before. It gives companies a single gateway to integrate their SAP ERP systems, SAP Ariba cloud applications, and Ariba Network using a simple, three-step process – helping them cut costs, increase efficiency, and optimize procurement results. |
| 2 | The SAP Ariba Cloud Integration Gateway is a self-service gateway that ALSO allows suppliers to configure and integrate to Ariba Network and transact with buyers seamlessly. Using the SAP Ariba Cloud Integration Gateway, suppliers can: - Connect once to the Ariba Network
- Specify the mapping configuration
- Validate and self-test transaction documents
- Shorten deployment time
- Free up IT resources
- Realize fast time to value
- Monitor and track the integration lifecycle overall
|
SAP Ariba CIG: Security and User Authentication
- CIG uses standard SAP and SAP Ariba cloud and on-premise security methods and guidelines.
- Users are authenticated by certificates as well as a username and password
Cloud Integration Gateway vs. Traditional Integration
| | Traditional Integration | SAP Ariba Cloud Integration Gateway |
|---|
| Integration timeline | Months | Weeks |
| Technical sophistication required | High | Moderate |
| Technology used | AribaCloud Integration: an Outdated on-premise-based technology, which is on maintenance | SAP Ariba Cloud Integration Gateway: a cutting-edge, cloud-based technology with active, ongoing enhancement and development |
| Administration | Requires physical on-site presence with the system | Accessible anywhere via browser with secure authentication and single sign-on through Ariba Network |
| Method | Hand coding | Wizard-based |
| Security | Open firewall ports, external application access | No firewall changes; data pushed to external application via HTTPS |
| Initial implementation | High effort | Moderate effort |
| Subsequent implementations | High effort, as if each new solution is the first | Low effort, where each additional application requires only incremental setup |
| Interface maintenance | High effort, as if each new solution is the first requires ongoing monitoring, with potential for non-SAP interfaces to fail following updates to the underlying systems | Minimal monitoring required, as SAP-based interfaces maintain compatibility before and after SAP and SAP Ariba systems upgrades |
Existing Integrated Solutions and Migration Support
- Existing Integrations
While customers with existing integrated solutions will still receive support, they can access newly developed features and functionalities easier when they use SAP Ariba Cloud Integration Gateway
- SAP Ariba CI solution can coexist with CIG (please note End-of-Life Schedule for CI)

- We offer custom migration options through partners or SAP Ariba deployment services
SAP Ariba Cloud Integration Gateway Architecture – Overview
The diagram above depicts the architecture of the SAP Ariba Cloud Integration Gateway. Leveraging the SAP Cloud Platform, the SAP Ariba Cloud Integration Gateway integrates customers SAP system to SAP Ariba solutions.
The SAP Ariba Cloud Integration Gateway add-on sits within the customers SAP system and is required for integration. The Cloud connector is used to establish connectivity to the SAP Cloud Platform, without the customers firewall having to open an inbound port.
