Planning a Software Change

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to use the Maintenance Planner for an upgrade and an SAP S/4HANA conversion.

Plan a Software Change

Maintenance Planner (1)

In Maintenance Planner, select Plan for SAP S/4HANA. Choose to convert your existing SAP ECC system.

Note

For conversions to the SAP Business Suite cloud, use the dedicated conversion planning option to the SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition, which is associated with the RISE with SAP system transition workbench.
Maintenance Planner (2)

Select the target release and SAP Support Package stack/feature package. Select embedded deployment of Fiori Apps.

Maintenance Planner (3)

The summary of the selected changes is displayed.

Maintenance Planner (4)

Select the kernel. Starting with the Software Update Manager 2.0 SP 16, only a kernel for the target database is selected. In older Software Update Manager versions, a new kernel for both the source database and the target database had to be selected. Also, an up-to-date SAP Host Agent and Software Update Manager can be selected.

Maintenance Planner (5)

A downgrade warning is displayed if the source release of the SAP ECC system has a higher SAP Support Package level than the selected SAP Support Package stack/feature package of the target SAP S/4HANA Server release. To avoid a downgrade, additional SAP Support Packages are selected automatically by the Maintenance Planner,

Maintenance Planner (6)

Download the Stack XML file needed for the Software Update Manager. Push the selected software packages to the Download Basket and download them with the Download Manager.

Provide Stack XML File

First the stack XML file has to be placed in the download directory for the Software Update Manager.

Then the stack XML file – and with it the download directory – has to be provided to the Software Update Manager.
