Explaining Permissions

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to describe Role-Based Permissions.

Permissions

Role-Based Permissions allow you to control access to applications in the SAP SuccessFactors HCM Suite via Permission Groups and Permission Roles. Permission Roles define what is allowed; the Permission Groups define who is allowed to do it (granted users) and for whom (target users).

Granular permissions can be provided according to administrative needs and appropriate population. Most rights can also be restricted by the target population, allowing for distributed administration of the process.

A separate permission feature called Field-Based Permissions is available if you wish to control the visibility of compensation information at the column level. For example, there may be a column that you wish HR to be able to edit but that a manager would only have read-only permission.

Summary

Role-Based Permissions in SAP SuccessFactors:

  • Enable control of application access, using Permission Roles to specify allowed actions and Permission Groups to designate who can perform them and for whom.
  • Provides detailed permissions to accommodate various administrative needs, with most rights adjustable by target population for distributed process management.
  • Offers additional control at the column level within compensation information, allowing specific visibility and edit rights, such as enabling HR to edit while restricting managers to read-only access.
