Enabling E-mail Notifications for Development Goals

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to enable e-mail notifications for development goals.

Goal Notifications Enablement

Goal Notifications

This lesson focuses on available selections for goal notifications.

As development goals are created, the administrator can select options for goal-specific e-mail notifications. Notifications are shared between goal management and development, so development management consultants should check the goal management configuration and confirm their changes won’t negatively impact goal management.

If you do not want to enable notifications for ALL goal plan templates, you can selectively disable notifications for specific templates. After enabling notifications, select the Customize Settings for Goal Plans option and select the templates for which you wish to enable notifications.

The Enable Goal Notifications table displays the three available goal notifications. These notifications are shared with Goal Management.

Business Example

As a consultant, you are asked to enable development goal e-mail notification.

Steps

  1. Log in as CDPadmin and use Action Search to navigate to E-mail Notification Template Settings.

  2. Make sure that the applicable goal notifications templates are activated:

    • Goal Creation Notification

    • Goal Delete Notification

    • Goal Modification Notification (daily)

    Note

If any of these notifications are not activated, activate them and then select Save Notification Settings. It is not necessary to activate the Goal Comment Notification because we will not use the standard comment field in the Development Plan template for the exercises.
  3. For each notification, do the following:

    • Include Development Goal in the e-mail subject. For example, set the e-mail subject for the Goal Creation Notification to the following: Development Goal Creation Notice from Performance Manager.

    • Change the text of the email body.
    • Ensure that private goals are included in the notification:
      1. Edit the e-mail subject to include the words Development Goal.

      2. Change the text of the e-mail body to descriptions that make sense.

      3. Ensure that private goals are included in the notification.

      4. Ensure that the Development Plan CDP Academy is included in the notifications by choosing Customize Settings for Goal Plans.

      5. Choose Save Changes each time for all the modified templates.

  4. Log into the instance as Mike Miller.

    Note

It is important that you actually log in as Mike Miller with the username mmmm and password Password12. Please do not use the proxy in this case. If you proxy into Mike's account as the administrator, you will not see private goals. This is expected behavior. When you initially log in as Mike Miller, you will be asked to select a new password. Select Password123, and then go to the Options menu, and from the dropdown, select Settings. Set your password back to Password12.

  5. Create a development goal.

    1. Navigate to Development and the Development Plan tab.

    2. Choose Add Goal.

    3. Fill out all required fields (items with red stars).

    4. Choose Save.

  6. Log in as Felicia Ford.

  7. Create a development goal for Mike Miller as his manager, Felicia Ford.

    1. Navigate to Development, and the Development Plan tab.

    2. Select Felicia Ford in the upper left-hand corner, and in the dropdown menu, switch to Mike Miller. This will show you Mike Miller's plan based on what Felicia Ford is allowed to see as Mike's Manager.

    3. Choose Add Goal to create a new goal on Mike Miller's plan. Complete all required fields and choose Save.

  8. Now, make a small modification to the goal.

    Note

Check your junk mail folder if expected notifications are not received. Another troubleshooting step would be to change the user's e-mail address to a personal e-mail address. There could be miscommunication between SAP SuccessFactors and your business e-mail address.

    Note

Keep in mind that you may not receive notifications immediately because some notifications are consolidated and sent once every 24 hours.

Result

You have now enabled a development goal e-mail notification.
