The permission model of the customer controls how permissions are applied. Like any other module in SAP SuccessFactors, Role-Based Permissions (RBP) must be properly applied.
Note
In this training we will explore the RBP permissions that are relevant for SAP SuccessFactors Career Development Planning. For a detailed overview of RBP permissions, refer to the RBP section in THR80 (SAP SuccessFactors Platform Introduction Academy).Permissions for Career Development Planning
Permissions are separated into User Permissions and Administrator Permissions within permission roles.

CDP User Permissions:
Mentoring Programs Access Permission: This permission allows the role to access Mentoring Programs.
Career Development Plan (CDP) Access Permission: This permission gives users access to the Development tab. To access the Development tab, navigate to Home → Development. Additional permissions are required for access to development plans within the Development tab.
Career Worksheet Access Permission: Gives access to the Career Worksheet tab within Development. An additional permission is required for the Worksheet as well.
Career Worksheet Suggested Roles Access Permission: Gives access to the Suggested Role feature of CDP.
Recommended Successors Permission: When using Succession and CDP, this permission allows the user to view the recommended or suggested successor in the Succession Org Chart V12 position card.
Permissions for Goal Plans
Once the main CDP permissions are enabled, access to a specific Development Plan or Career Worksheet must be granted.
These permissions are located under the Goals section of User Permissions within Manage Permission Roles. It is possible to give permissions to one, multiple, or all Development Plans.
Note
If the CDP Access permission is given, but no Development Plan or Worksheet permissions are given, users will receive an error when attempting to access Development Plans or Career Worksheets.Roles in SAP SuccessFactors Career Development Planning and Goals Permissions
To learn about Roles in SAP SuccessFactors Career Development Planning and Goals Permissions, watch this video:
The following table shows the different permissions and how they can be used.
Role Permissions
Permission Role | Permission | Target Population | Purpose of the Target Population |
---|
All employees | All permissions under User Permissions → Career Development Planning All Development Plans and Career Worksheets under User Permissions → Goal Management → Goal Plan Permissions | Self | By restricting the target population to Self, we ensure that employees only have access to see their own development goals and not the development goals of their peers. Managers who need access will require a separate permission role to access the plans of their direct reports. |
Managers | All permissions under User Permissions → Career Development Planning All Development Plans and Career Worksheets under User Permissions → Goal Management → Goal Plan Permissions | Direct reports (all levels down ) | Manager A can see the development goals of Manager A’s direct reports but not the development goals of Manager B’s direct reports. |
Administrator (All admin) | All User Permissions | All | Super Admin should in most cases be able to see all user information for troubleshooting purposes. |
SAP SuccessFactors Career Development Planning Permissions - RBP: Administrator Permissions
Administrative permissions need to be applied for the "behind the scenes" SAP SuccessFactors Career Development Planning action to take place. Only users performing administrative functions should have access to Administrator Permissions.
Note
The Super Admin role should have access to ALL admin permissions and ALL user permissions.
