SAP SuccessFactors Career Development Planning Provisioning Settings

Note

Customers do not have access to Provisioning. To complete tasks in Provisioning, customers should ask an implementation partner. If they are no longer working with an implementation partner, they should contact Product Support.

Provisioning Overview

The first step in the SAP SuccessFactors Career Development Planning implementation process is to select applicable settings on the customer’s Provisioning side of the instance.

Provisioning settings essentially turn on the pieces and parts of SAP SuccessFactors Career Development Planning that have been purchased and selected by the customer.

The Login page of the SuccessFactors Provisioning Engine is displayed.

Provisioning Settings

The SAP SuccessFactors Career & Development Planning Provisioning Settings page is displayed.

SAP SuccessFactors Career Development Planning Provisioning Settings include the following:

  • CDP Full (Development Plan)

  • Enable Development Plan V12

  • Career Worksheet

  • Career Worksheet V12

  • Enable Career Path V2

    • Enable Career Path V2 is only necessary for customers needing the Career Path, which is discussed in a separate section of this training. For this setting, you will also need to turn on Enable Generic Objects and Enable the Attachment Manager.

Note

As a best practice, and for auditing purposes, it is recommended that consultants create a super admin user in Provisioning.

Set up SAP SuccessFactors Career Development Planning in Provisioning

To learn how to complete this exercise, watch this video:

Practice setting up SAP SuccessFactors Career Development Planning in Provisioning:

Business Example

Provisioning is the key customer instance configuration tool that SAP SuccessFactors and Services use to control many aspects of the end user experience.

As a consultant, you're asked to access the Provisioning site and set up your instance for Career Development Planning (CDP). In this exercise, you'll enable the CDP module, and in a subsequentyou'll create an additional administrator account.

Steps

  1. Log in to Provisioning using the credentials supplied in the e-mail that was sent to you, either as part of an instructor-led training or from SAP Learning System Access. Then, select your Company ID supplied in the e-mail.

  2. Review the settings listed below in Company Settings to make sure that the Career Development Planning module is properly activated. If any of the settings mentioned after this is not activated, go ahead and activate it.

    Note

If you need to activate an option in Provisioning, you will check the corresponding box and select Save in that section where you activated the option. Be careful because there are several. Save buttons in this area of Company Settings. You will then be asked to enter the company ID that you can see at the top of the page in ProvisioningCompany Settings, and you must be sure to select the Confirm button.

      • Enable Public Profile

    • Enable Generic Objects — requires "Enable the Attachment Manager"

      Note

Scroll up and choose Save Feature if you made any changes. Choosing any Save button in ProvisioningCompany Settings will require that you add the Company ID in a pop-up window to confirm that the changes have to be implemented in that particular instance.

    • Goal Management Suite – Select the dropdown for Total Goal Management (it should be the only available option).

Role-Based Permissions in SAP SuccessFactors Career Development Planning

The permission model of the customer controls how permissions are applied. Like any other module in SAP SuccessFactors, Role-Based Permissions (RBP) must be properly applied.

Note

In this training, we will explore the RBP permissions that are relevant for SAP SuccessFactors Career Development Planning. For a detailed overview of RBP permissions, refer to the RBP section in THR80 (SAP SuccessFactors Platform Introduction Academy).

Permissions for Career Development Planning

Permissions are separated into User Permissions and Administrator Permissions within permission roles.

To learn about Role-Based Permissions (RBP), watch this video:

Beyond general access to the system, key players must be permissioned to work with the SAP SuccessFactors Career Development Planning module.

Select the permissions type for Career Development Planning on the Add Permissions page.

To access CDP Permissions:

  1. Navigate to Manage Permission Roles using action search.
  2. Select the role for which you’re editing permissions.
  3. Choose Edit and change the basic information if necessary.
  4. Choose Next and navigate to the User Permissions section.
  5. Select Career Development Planning.
  6. Grant CDP permissions to the selected role.
  7. Choose Next, review the role’s permissions, and choose Save.

CDP User Permissions:

  • Mentoring Programs Access Permission: This permission allows the role to access Mentoring Programs.

  • Career Development Plan (CDP) Access Permission: This permission gives users access to the Development tab. To access the Development tab, navigate to HomeDevelopment. Additional permissions are required for access to development plans within the Development tab.

  • Career Worksheet Access Permission: This permission gives access to the Career Worksheet tab within Development. An additional permission is required for the Worksheet as well.

  • Career Worksheet Suggested Roles Access Permission: This permission gives access to the Suggested Role feature of CDP.

  • Recommended Successors Permission: When using Succession and CDP, this permission allows the user to view the recommended or suggested successor in the Succession Org Chart V12 position card.

Permissions for Goal Plans

Once the main CDP permissions are enabled, access to a specific development plan or Career Worksheet must be granted.

Select the permissions type for Goals on the Add Permissions page.

These permissions are located under the Goals section of User Permissions within Manage Permission Roles. It is possible to give permissions to one, multiple, or all development plans.

Note

If the CDP access permission is given, but no development plan or worksheet permissions are given, users will receive an error when attempting to access development plans or Career Worksheets.
