Instance and Provisioning Access
The two sides to the SAP SuccessFactors system are called the Instance and the Provisioning.
An Instance is the front-end of the SAP SuccessFactors system that a company's employees use on a daily basis. The instance is where the Role-Based Permissions are set up to determine who can access what in the system. The homepage is the default landing page when you login to your instance. Users with administrator privileges will have access to the Admin Center where they can find tools to manage different functions and features of the system.
Provisioning is the back-end of an SAP SucessFactors environment. This is where initial settings are made, where data models are uploaded, and where different modules like SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central are activated. Customers are not granted access to Provisioning. Only authorized SAP SuccessFactors consultants and implementation partners are granted Provisioning access.

SAP SuccessFactors Platform

The SAP SuccessFactors Platform is the fundamental component that enables all the other SAP SuccessFactors solutions to work. The entire suite is tethered to the Platform. The Platform grounds all the common capabilities utilized by the applications in the system.
Platform capabilities are grouped under three main areas: Administration, Technology, and User Experience. These essential platform capabilities are not module specific but are intended for use by all modules.
