Instance and Provisioning Access
The SAP SuccessFactors system has two main parts: the Instance and Provisioning.

The Instance is the part of the system that employees interact with every day. It’s the user-friendly front-end where people log in to access their work tools. This is also where Role-Based Permissions are set up—these determine who can see and do what within the system. When users log in, they first see the homepage. Those with administrative rights can go to the Admin Center, where they can manage different parts of the system, like user settings or company configurations.
On the other hand, Provisioning is the system’s back-end. It’s used during the setup and configuration phase of the system. In Provisioning, consultants upload data models, make initial settings, and activate different modules such as SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central.
Regular customers do not have access to Provisioning. It is restricted to authorized SAP consultants and certified implementation partners because it involves more technical configurations that require specialized knowledge.

SAP SuccessFactors Platform

The SAP SuccessFactors Platform is the fundamental component that enables all the other SAP SuccessFactors solutions to work. The entire suite is tethered to the Platform. The Platform grounds all the common capabilities utilized by the applications in the system.
Platform capabilities are grouped under three main areas: Administration, Technology, and User Experience. These essential platform capabilities are not module specific but are intended for use by all modules.
