Explaining the Impex Invoking Process

In SAP Commerce Cloud, there are multiple ways for you to invoke ImpEx. First, let’s look at where you can launch an Import. You can easily launch an import in the administration console also known as HAC. This is a great tool for you to test your impex scripts. However, there are some limitations you should be aware of while using the HAC import console: you can only import one impex file at a time.  So if you have multiple impex files to execute,  the import console is not the best solution. you also cannot use external data, since the impex executor is only allowed access to the console’s import content. Only a few configuration options are available at the bottom of the import console page.  you can set the import validation mode, the maximal number of threads used to execute the import,  the encoding content format, and turn on syntax highlighting.  You can also enable legacy mode or allow the execution of embedded script code.  or allow the execution of embedded script code.  The last two options, distributed mode and direct persistence,  will be covered in a later topic of this training. It's important to note that some important settings,  such as controlling access by assigning a user,  cannot be configured directly in the import console in HAC. Furthermore you can also launch an import in the Backoffice. under the navigation node System, Tools, Import you can upload an impex file,  configure some simple settings, and trigger an import  you can also create an impex import cronjob under the navigation node System,  Background Processes, Cronjobs.  A cronjob allows you to set more configuration settings,  such assigning a user to the import cronjob to limit its access. you can also launch an import using the command line  there is a predefined ant target called importImpex.  Remember to provide this ant target with the impex file location as a parameter. Finally, you can use out-of-the-box APIs to trigger import. The provided APIs are ImportService, ImpExImportCronjob, Importer, etc. A more detailed overview of these APIs can be found in the help system at this URL. Now let’s look at where can you launch an Export.  Like import, you can perform an export in the administration console,  the Backoffice, or using out-of-the-box APIs  in HAC, the export console is again just a test area for impex scripts, with limited configuration possibilities  In Backoffice, you can use the Export wizard under the navigation node System, tools.  There, you can specify the impex scripts to upload to perform an export. you can also create an impex export cronjob under System, Background Processes. This gives you more configuration options,  such as setting the session user. Finally, you can execute an import in Java by invoking the ExportService or creating an impex Export Cronjob.
