So, in the business capability factory type, you will find information that structures and describes essential elements or capabilities that an organization needs to fulfill its business model. Business capabilities can describe different contexts of a company, for example, strategy, business architecture, IT architecture, or organization units. However, they don't reflect those. Instead, business capabilities are an abstraction of the underlying functionality and flows. Business architecture reveals how an organization is structured and can clearly demonstrate how different elements such as capabilities, processes, divisions, and information fit together. Therefore, as a first step, we need to establish a sound business capability model. To help you with that, we have already compiled a set of pre-configured business capability maps from numerous industries that you can use. You can access these from the resources section of this course. There you can easily find industry specific business capability maps, which work perfectly if you don't have an established business capability map already. Here is an example of a business capability map. Each of the white boxes, for example, strategic management, deliver customer experience, and sell and market products represent level one capabilities that a set business has. Within each of these capabilities, there are more specific level two capabilities. From our experience with our customers, you should start off with building a hierarchy in your business capability map that has no more than two levels. The simple reason is that managing more hierarchies can be complex to maintain, which results in slower adoption and time to value. Increased maintenance efforts also negatively impact your data quality as there are more and more things to update and keep track of. Please keep in mind that it is not a must to have all of your organizations defined right from the start. IT components encompass the technology, both software and hardware, as well as the services on which applications rely. They are the vital bridge between applications and providers. IT components are powerful for getting crucial insights for obsolescence risk management, operating costs, and managing other risks such as provider, location, and outage management. In general, you need IT components to provide hosting information and to get provider information into Linux. You can leverage the SAS Discovery and SAS Catalog as a shortcut to get this information into Linux. However, we don't recommend organizations to focus on IT components during their initial usage. They can bring in this information at a later advanced stage, or if there's an urgency, because they need to capture information, such as obsolescence risk, at the beginning.
