SAP SuccessFactors Incentive Management Touchless Deployment: Performing your First Deployment

Hello and welcome to our video series on Touchless Deployment for SAP Commissions. In this video, I'll be showing you how to perform a basic deployment. As we saw in the first video, touchless deployment allows developers to deploy custom code in the production environment without the need for a support ticket. Remember that all customizations happen in the EXT schema and the TCMP schema cannot be customized. Let's look at our scenario again. Our system has a requirement to create a new table called Orders that contains three columns, OrderName, Value, and EuroValue. We also need to set the value of the EuroValue column to 15. The SQL code that will make these changes will be stored in a series of SQL changelog files that will number SQLChange1, SQLChange2, and so on. The parent folder will contain the changelog master. This is an XML file that contains a list of all changelog files. Let's take a look at the folder structure. I've added both my program files and SQL changelogs to a local folder called Touchlist Deployment, but you can store it anywhere you like. I'll start by opening the SQL list folder and take a look at the change logs. Remember that our first step is to add an orders table to the ext schema that contains two columns, order name and value. Looking in the SQLChange1 file, I can see the SQL code that makes these changes. SQLChange2 ensures no bad values are in the new table by setting the value to 0. SQLChange3 adds the Eurovalue column, and SQLChange4 sets the value of Eurovalue to 15. Now, let's go up to the parent folder where we see the changelog master. This is an XML file that contains a list of all the changelogs. Once the SQL files and the changelog master are in place, we can run the command to deploy the custom code on the commission server. Using a command prompt, we start from the location of the program file. This is the syntax we'll use to make the updates. The directory is the location of the changelog master. If it contains any spaces, I need to put it in quotations. Let's execute the command and watch the progress. Great, it looks like our job was successful. Once the process is done, I can use a database viewer to see the changes. I'm using Web IDE. I'll open the ext schema and find the table called Orders. I can also see that the columns have been added to the table. In this video, I showed you how to perform a basic deployment. I showed the folder structure that contains the changelog files and the command to run touchless deployment. In the next video, we'll show you how to roll back a deployment. Thanks for watching.
