SAP SuccessFactors Incentive Management Touchless Deployment: Rollback and Rollback to Tag

Hello, and welcome to our video series on Touchless Deployment for SAP Commissions. In this video, I'll show you how to perform a rollback. In the first two videos, I showed you the basic setup and configuration of touchless deployment and how to perform a deployment. In this video, I'll show how to roll back the last change and how to roll back to a tag. I'll also show the location of the log files, and I'll finish with a review of some common Liquibase operations. Rollbacks allow you to undo the changes made by a deployment. Using the examples we deployed in the previous videos, we'll perform three operations. First, we'll use a rollback to remove the euro value column and value. We'll set a tag called stable version 1, and finally we'll roll back to the new tag. Let's start with the option to roll back to the last change. This option uses the command roll back last change sets. The "-L switch indicates the number of changelogs to roll back, starting from the last one and working backward. For example, in the last video, we deployed four changelogs. Using the switch "-l 2", we'll roll back changelogs 3 and 4, leaving 1 and 2. You'll remember that our first change was to add an orders table to the ext schema that contains two columns, order name and value. We did this in our first changelog file, SQLChange1. SQLChange2 creates a procedure that ensures no bad values are in the new table by setting the value to 0. SQLChange3 adds the EuroValue column, and SQLChange4 creates a procedure called UpdateEuroValue that sets the value of EuroValue to 15. In our database browser, we can see the orders table we created, the columns we added, and the update euro value procedure. Let's see how we can execute the command to roll back the last two changes. We'll start by opening a command prompt and navigating to the folder that contains the TdClient command. Let's enter the TdI command with the "-h"-switch to show the help text. The command we need is Rollback Last Changesets. We'll use the "-Lswitch to indicate that we want to roll back the last two changes. Let's run the command and make sure it completes successfully. Back in our database browser, Web IDE, you'll notice the Eurovalue column is no longer in the Orders table. When I open the list of procedures, we also no longer see the Update Eurovalue procedure. Now let's see how the Roll Back to Tag command can make this easier. When doing complex development tasks, we may have a large number of changes to undo to get back to a specific point. Before we add new change logs, we can create and name a tag. We can then roll back to that tag at any time, regardless of the number of changes we've made. The first step is to create the tag. The command to create a tag is "-t", followed by the new tag name. I'll create a tag called stable version 1. Now let's say we've deployed some new changes and want to roll them back. To do this, I'll use the Rollback to Tag command. The T-switch this time will call the stable version 1 tag I created earlier. Great, it looks like our rollback was successful. Now, let's check the results in Web IDE. Here, it also looks like the rollback worked. We no longer have the euro value column in our orders table. If you encounter an error, or if you need more details on one of your deployments, you can find the Liquibase log files in the Touchless Deployment parent folder. Before we finish, let's do a quick review of some of the common tags and parameters you'll use with Liquibase and Touchless Deployment. The base command is tdclient.sh for Unix or tdclient.cmd for Windows. Dash H displays help information, including the full list of commands. Dash O is the operation to execute. Possible operations include Test Connection, Update, Tag, Rollback to Tag, and Rollback Last Change Set. Dash M precedes the name of the changelog master file. Dash T sets the tag name for the tag operation, or calls the tag name for the rollback-to-tag operation. Dash L stands for last change sets. It sets the number of change sets to rollback from last to first. In this video, we talked about how to rollback to the last change, and how to rollback to a tag. We showed the Liquibase log files, and went over the most commonly used Liquibase operations. Thanks for watching.
