Managing Archives

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to manage archives environments.

Archive Management

In the Universal Model, the frequent, daily usage of data, rather than periodic (monthly or quarterly) usage, significantly accelerates data processing. As a result, efficient data archiving becomes critical.

The SAP Manage Archives screen with the 'Archive' button highlighted to back up a specific data entity.

Unlike other SAP PaPM solutions, the Universal Model incorporates built-in archiving functionality. While other solutions require workarounds, this model streamlines the process.

You can simply click on the "Archive" option, allowing you to specify the object to archive, such as a model entity. The system then generates a .tar.gz file containing the archived data. You have the choice to either delete the data from the system upon archiving or retain it. Additionally, the data can be restored from the archive file whenever required.

There is also additional powerful feature of Universal Model, you can filter what you want to archives. You can apply filter in your results and select object, table, period etc. you would like to archives (Picture on the left).

When archiving there is also an option to select before date, meaning to say to archive everything before certain date. You would know that everything up to this date is archived in your system. Final option is about different deletion possibilities, user can leave previously archived records in the system or overwrite them.

A two-panel user interface for archiving data. A user selects an entity named 'Currencies1' from a list, which populates the 'Archive' form where the option to delete archived entries is set to 'Yes'.

We have two option when restoring archives. There is simple "restore archive" option where all archived data will be restored and Delta Archive option where system will search for the delta (difference) in 2 archived version.
