Assessing Environment Configurations using the Comparison Tool

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to analyze environment configuration details using the Comparison Tool within the self-service dashboard.

The Comparison Analysis Interface

By selecting the Comparison Tool, users can specify a source environment and tenant to compare its Company and Site Configurations with those of the target tenant and environment they’re logged into. The target details are defaulted and unchangeable, reflecting the buyer code and URL details associated with the login of the Configuration Manager user performing the comparison request.

Once the source environment and tenant are defined and validated, the comparison results display differences in both Company and Site Configurations, highlighting only variations in enablement, default settings, or lock configurations.

Comparison Tool User interface

Anja, an Administrator for WorkingNet, is also designated as a Configuration Manager user within the SAP Fieldglass system. In a non-production environment, she is tasked with setting up a new test landscape and tenant configuration for WorkingNet. She plans to utilize the Configuration Mover functionality to migrate the configuration of another WorkingNet test tenant into a new test landscape and environment URL. Prior to completing the Configuration Mover request, she’ll first compare the tenants to determine and analyze the Company and Site Configuration differences.

As seen in this specific demonstration and example, the Comparison Tool is a large asset and offering within the self-service dashboard, because it allows Configuration Managers the ability to understand the impacts and differences in the source tenant configurations before they formally execute a migration and movement of another tenant into their hosted target landscape. By reviewing the provided details or downloaded table, a user can choose to either conduct the Configuration Mover request accordingly, with no limitations, or they can choose to update their configuration manually using the Company Configuration tile.

In using the Company Configuration tile, Configuration Managers can modify their target tenant company configurations to synchronize them with the source tenant where company structure and admin configuration will be pulled from using Configuration Mover. It should be noted that not all configuration elements are actionable using this implementation tile and some may require SAP Fieldglass support to modify. These three implementation toolkits within the dashboard work seamlessly together to inform, prepare, and facilitate automated configuration tasks with minimal negative impacts or errors for the end users

Lesson Summary

This lesson introduces the SAP Fieldglass Comparison Tool, a self-service utility that allows Configuration Managers to analyze and understand the configuration differences between a source and a target tenant. This proactive comparison is a critical step to determine potential impacts before using the Configuration Mover to migrate settings.

Most Important Information:

  • The Comparison Tool identifies variations in Company and Site Configurations between a source tenant you specify and the target tenant you are logged into.
  • It is primarily used to analyze differences before executing a migration with the Configuration Mover, allowing you to anticipate the impact of the changes.
  • After reviewing the comparison, you can choose to either proceed with the Configuration Mover or use the Company Configuration tile to manually adjust settings in your target tenant.
  • Users can compare their anticipated source tenants to SAP Fieldglass GOLD leading practice tenants to determine if they would prefer to use a leading practice configuration as a baseline.
  • After completing a migration using Configuration Mover, users can utilize the Comparison Tool to confirm all configuration settings and information pulled over and integrated successfully.
  • The Comparison Tool, Configuration Mover, and Company Configuration tile are designed to work together to inform, prepare, and automate configuration tasks efficiently.
