Introducing the Test to Prod migration workflow

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to describe the options for migrating configuration elements into production from test.

Test to Production

The second use case and workflow the Configuration Mover functionality supports is the migration of configuration settings and structure from a buyer’s test and development landscape into the live production instance of SAP Fieldglass. This use case is commonly known as Test-to-Prod and was historically managed via a manual implementation process, even with the support and use of integration tools and dedicated teams available to customers. By following the same process outlined in the Gold-to-Test, clients can leverage Configuration Mover functionality to select their personal tenant as the source object and define their production tenant as the final desired target.

Migrating into Production

When utilizing the Configuration Mover feature to migrate configuration data from Test to Production, the same options, selections, and functionalities all apply – minus the initial selection of choosing a best practice landscape to import data from. Once the initial Gold Buyer landscape option is declined, a buyer will navigate through the same online form page and choose all relevant configuration elements they wish to move into the SAP Fieldglass Production landscape. It is important to notate that in an effort for the integration pull to successfully operate, the Configuration Manager user is required to be logged into their Production instance of SAP Fieldglass to integrate from their defined test environment.

Test to Production API Connectors

As discussed in the first unit, the integration APIs associated with the configuration migration process are primarily labeled with a naming convention of Test to Prod, along with the associated configuration or structural object that they are uploading or downloading. After the Configuration Mover selections are submitted, a script will run the associated integration APIs in the background until all configuration elements are delivered to the target destination. Associated and required connectors are listed within the Config Mover UI for reference as well when selecting configuration elements to import.
