Why?
Many small and mid-sized enterprises continue to operate with fragmented logistics systems, relying on legacy warehouse management tools, spreadsheets for transportation planning, and email chains for carrier communication. This fragmented approach leads to poor visibility, inefficiencies, and complex integrations. SAP Logistics Management transforms this landscape with a modern, SaaS-based solution built natively on the SAP Business Technology Platform, unifying warehousing, transportation, and network collaboration into a single, intelligent cloud platform.
To achieve this seamless integration into one cohesive, cloud-native experience, SAP Logistics Management must ensure a bidirectional data flow, maintain a single source of truth across finance and operations, and integrate with external systems using standard APIs and content packages.
SAP Logistics Management can be integrated with various external systems, such as SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition, SAP Business Network for Logistics (BN4L), as well as external services such as SAP Print Service and Parcel Service.
Integration with SAP S/4HANA
Integration with SAP S/4HANA enables the transfer of master data such as products, business partners and transactional data such as deliveries, purchase orders and material documents and so on to SAP Logistics Management via SAP Business Technology Platform.
To effectively bridge a modern cloud native solution like SAP Logistics Management with SAP ERP system, SAP Cloud Platform Integration is required as middleware to handle these SOAP messages. SAP Cloud Platform Integration is a component of SAP Integration Suite, which uses SOAP adapters to connect systems via the standard SOAP protocol (XML-based and WSDL-defined), enabling structured enterprise messaging and reliable, contract-driven communication across SAP-to-SAP, third-party, and legacy environments. These adapters support real-time data synchronization, robust error handling, and provide structured message mapping.
To integrate SAP Logistics Management with SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition, several administrative configurations are required, including connecting SAP S/4HANA to SAP Integration Suite, enabling OData services and completing the business integration setup for master data replication.
Technical Integration with SAP S/4HANA
Following are the links to detailed technical configuration steps required to enable communication between SAP Logistics Management and SAP S/4HANA:
Business Integration with SAP S/4HANA
Managing Replication Configuration:
Used to create the settings for replicating master data and transactional data from SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition to SAP Logistics Management. This allows you to maintain accurate and up-to-date data across your connected systems while ensuring data consistency and availability.
Replication variant: Allows to filter the data to be replicated from SAP S/4HANA for each business object type that is relevant for the operations in the warehouse. One can select the fields specific to the business object type that you use to filter the data to be replicated.
If you add the same field multiple times with different values, they are connected by an OR logic and if you select different fields, they are connected by an AND logic.

For example, you want to replicate all business partners associated with your logistics operation for company code 1010—that is, all customers, suppliers, and carriers. You have already imported company code 1010 as part of your organizational model.
Create a replication variant for the Business Partner object type and add the following filters to replicate customer-related data:
- Company Code equals 1010
- Sales Organization equals 1010
Result of this replication configuration: Master data that meets the conditions for both sales organization and company code will be replicated.
Scheduling Data Replication
Using this application, one can define how often master data (business partners and products) and transactional data (purchase orders) should be synchronized between SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition and SAP Logistics Management. You can either run a schedule immediately to replicate the data or set up a recurring schedule. Additionally, you can cancel a replication schedule at any time.
Integration with SAP Business Network Freight Collaboration
SAP Business Network Freight Collaboration is a cloud-based platform connecting shippers, carriers, and logistics providers to real-time visibility, streamlined processes, and intelligent insights across the supply chain.
If the business wishes to improve supply chain efficiency by connecting business partners on a collaborative network that supports jointly managing transactions, exchanging documents, and sharing insights, then SAP Business Network Freight Collaboration can be smoothly integrated alongside SAP Logistics Management.
SAP Business Network Freight Collaboration is integrated with SAP Logistics Management via a SAP BTP destination that uses authentication certificates.
- Outbound Messages:
To authenticate outbound messages from SAP Logistics Management to SAP Business Network Freight Collaboration, an authentication certificate generated using the Identity Authentication service is used.
The client certificate is then imported to SAP Business Network Freight Collaboration, and a system connection in the Shipper tenant is created.
For more detailed technical steps, refer to Authenticating Outbound Messages from SAP Logistics Management to SAP Business Network Freight Collaboration.
- Inbound Messages:
To authenticate inbound messages, connections in SAP Business Network Freight Collaboration are configured, and credentials are maintained in SAP Logistics Management using Basic Authentication.
For more detailed technical steps, refer to Authenticating Inbound Messages to SAP Logistics Management from SAP Business Network Freight Collaboration.
Integration with SAP External Services
- SAP Print Service - SAP Logistics Management utilizes SAP Print Service to send documents from the cloud to local printer via print queues, print queues, and to create and manage those queues.
- SAP Forms Service - SAP Forms service by Adobe lets you generate print and interactive forms using Adobe Document Services. The service template store lets you create new forms and assign them to one or more templates for example for loading list, HU shipping label etc.
For more details on integration steps refer Technical Integration with External Services.
- Courier, Express and Parcel Services -
In case the business involves a parcel provider and wish to integrate the respective scenarios then, parcel integration facilitates communication between SAP Logistics Management and courier, express and parcel (CEP) services. This integration is used for shipping smaller, non-palletized packages and supports the exchange of shipment data between systems.
You can provide shipment details such as the pre-selected carrier, ship-from and ship-to addresses, number of parcels, their dimensions and weight, and the required label format. Based on this input, the system sends a shipment request to the selected parcel provider. In return, it receives information such as the confirmed carrier (if not already selected), shipping labels, and tracking numbers.
SAP Logistics Management publishes Parcel Subcontracting Outbound Request API to connect carrier solution providers. These providers manage connectivity to individual parcel service providers, also known as courier, express, and parcel service (CEP) providers. This API must be implemented by a carrier solution provider.

Managing System Connections in SAP Logistics Management
Finally, to connect SAP Logistics Management with external systems, one needs to configure connections for a logical system. This involves defining a connection type and destination name for a logical system.
Connection type: It is a predefined code that is a combination of the system type and module, used to establish a connection between a logical system and destination system.
Following system codes are available in SAP Logistics Management:
| System Code | Description |
| 3001 | SAP S/4HANA and Master Data |
| 3002 | Business Network for Logistics and Inbound Connection |
| 3003 | Business Network for Logistics and Outbound Connection |
| 3004 | Integration Suite and Outbound Connection |
| 3005 | Parcel and Outbound Connection |
| 3006 | Joule and Formation |
