Customizing Elements Behavior

The Element's Behavior settings help with issues where a WalkMe item is not showing up as expected on the page.

They help WalkMe better understand how a selected element behaves on the website to ensure your WalkMe content shows up when and where it's supposed to.

The figure shows Element's Behavior section in the Editor.

Remember that by default, WalkMe technically functions by trying to load content upon initial page load.

So if the element you attached your Launcher to is not visible immediately when the web page loads, you need to tell WalkMe to keep looking for the element after that page load to make sure content will appear.

This is where Element's Behavior comes in.

In this example, the Signature text element is not visible until the user clicks into the "Signature" tab. There is no page refresh.

There are three main ways that WalkMe describes how elements behave on a website.

This (or "Automatic") is the default option for Element Behavior, and most elements on the web page show up as soon as the page loads.

When you load up the page on your e-mail, the create new mail, click on inbox, and other folders are immediately visible – this means these elements appear on page load.

This option is used for elements like buttons or forms that appear after you click on an element on the page.

This might happen with a form. When you click on a button, a form may appear for you to fill out. Once the form is on the page, there is no button to remove the form - it just stays on the page.

This option means that if you interact with a button or page a certain way, a new element will appear. But if you interact with that same element, the new element will go away.

Dropdown menus are the most common example of this. When you click/hover on a menu, you may see a list of options, but the moment you move away from the menu, it will go away.

There may be times when the element you attach Launchers to displays on multiple pages but you only want the Launcher to show-up on one of those pages.

Or maybe you only want a Launcher to show up if a certain option is visible on the screen to make the content more relevant for users.

This is when Display Conditions can help.

In this example, the Launcher only shows up when users select their subscription frequency as "1 Year."

The Display Condition can be found in the settings of the individual item under the Display Condition tab. The Condition Builder to set up these by clicking "Create a rule".
