SAP Business AI is organized into two tiers: Base AI, which is included in all SAP Cloud subscriptions at no extra cost, and Premium AI, which requires AI Units. SAP Joule for Consultants is a Premium AI offering. This lesson explains how this affects your organization.

The SAP Joule for Consultants Commercial Model
Per-User-Per-Month Package
- SAP Joule for Consultants uses a Per-User-Per-Month (PUPM) Pricing model.
- 35 AI Units are charged per assigned user, per month.
- Each assigned user gets 22,900 requests per month, included. Requests are pooled across all assigned users in the package, so unused capacity from one user offsets higher usage by another.
- If total usage across all users exceeds the included request allowance, overage is billed at 2 AI Units, per 1,000 requests.
- Billing is based on the highest number of assigned users during the month (high-watermark model). Users can be added or removed at any time.
AI Units
AI Units is the virtual currency for SAP Business AI. AI Units are purchased annually using SKU 8019164.
Note
SKU 8019164 is the new AI Units SKU. If your organization has older AI Units, the new SKU must be purchased separately.
AI Units are managed in a central pool and can be used across SAP Business AI services. They expire after 12 months. The minimum purchase is 100 AI Units, which serves as the entry point for testing the tool without a large upfront commitment.

Monitoring and Planning
- SAP for Me is the central dashboard for monitoring AI Unit consumption, viewing usage breakdowns by package, and tracking remaining balance.
- AI Feature Catalog (SAP Discovery Center) — explore all available AI capabilities, understand what is included in each package, and filter by product area.
- AI Unit Estimator (SAP Discovery Center) — calculate how many AI Units you need for selected packages. Can be used without login for quick estimates.
