Deleting Project Templates

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to delete project templates

Project Templates Deletion

Deleting a template is rarely necessary, and the best practice is to inactivate the template rather than delete it. Templates are usually only deleted when they were created by mistake or the wrong template type was selected during the creation process.

You can delete a template if it has never been used to create a project. If a template has been used to create a project, you can't delete it. However, you can make it inaccessible by editing it to make the project owner an inactive user, removing the rest of the project team, and setting it to inactive. Inactive project templates can't be used to create new projects.

To help organize templates, you can create a folder for inactive templates and place any templates with an inactive status into that folder. This way, you will not have to sort through a list of active and inactive templates when looking to modify a template.

Templates can be deleted from the Templates area:

  1. On the dashboard, choose ManageTemplates.
  2. On the Documents tab, choose the template you want to delete and select Delete.

For supplier management project templates, the following applies:

Template CharacteristicsExample Project TypesDeletion Possible?
