Introduction

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to get familiar with the Analytic Model concept and how it is embedded in the architectural overview of the scenario.

Analytic models are the analytical foundation for making data ready for consumption in SAP Analytics Cloud.

These models allow for the creation and definition of multi-dimensional structures to provide data for analytical purposes and to answer different business questions. The models come with predefined measures, hierarchies, filters, parameters, and associations, making navigation through the underlying data flexible and simple.

The sources for analytic models are facts, which can contain dimensions, texts, and hierarchies.

Key takeaways for the unit include:

  • Design Analytic Models including dimensions and measures.
  • Create different types of new measures.
  • Define input variables and filters.
  • Use the data preview to check the modeling outcome.
  • Change sorting, work with hierarchies, add filters in the preview.
  • Understand how SAP Analytics Cloud users will see the model.

The overview below lists the Sales Analytic Model, representing the analytical foundation, which you create and analyse in this Analytic Model unit. It relies on the fact and dimension entities - Sales Fact and Product, Business Partners, Address as well as Countries Dimension.

The SAP Datasphere space Central Space stores the dataset of our workshop. All objects and their data are predefined in this space and shared to your user space . If you did not complete a lesson, you can continue with the subsequent lessons.

[Optional] Modular Approach

If you did not complete the previous Data Modeling unit, creating the fact view Sales Fact, you can instead use the 4OV_Sales Fact object.

These objects are stored in the SAP Datasphere space CENTRAL DATA in the folder WORKBOOK_OVERVIEW and shared to your user space .

You find the 4OV__Sales Fact object listed in your Repository Explorer. Or for modeling in the Source Tree Explorer of the Analytic Builder next to your local objects.
