SAP Analytics Cloud provides native ESRI integration without requiring additional licensing. There are several map themes to match your desired level of detail and design.

Using SAP Analytics Cloud and SAP HANA Spatial technology, you can overlay business data on geo maps with detailed geographic information.

In this lesson, you add a Geo Map with a Choropleth layer to visualize Gross Sales information.

Note

The model from SAP Datasphere already contains geo enriched data.

After completing the lesson, your story (in edit mode) should look similar to:

Add Geo Map

[Optional] Open your story in edit mode if not already.

  1. [Optional] Locate _Sales_Analytics_Visualization from the navigation bar at Files -> My Files, or Stories -> Recent Files.

  2. [Optional] Select Edit.

Create a Geo Map.

  1. Select the ‘+’ Create a Geo Map placeholder in the Main Lane of the template.

  2. The Right Side Panel (Builder, Styling) opens.

Add Amount Layer

Add and configure a Choropleth layer of style Bubble.

In the Choropleth layer, your dimensions and measures are visualized by displaying shaded geographical shapes or bubbles. You will create a layer for each.

  1. In the Builder tab under Content Layers, select ‘+’ Add Layer.

  2. Change the Layer Type to Choropleth / Drill.

  3. Change the Style to Bubble.

  1. Update the Layer Name to Amount.

  2. Select the Available Objects.

  3. From Available Objects under LOCATION DIMENSIONS, drag BPLocation to Location Dimension.

  1. And under Measures, drag GROSSAMOUNT to Bubble Color.

  2. Select Done, to save the Amount layer settings.

  3. Deselect the Right Side Panel (Builder, Styling) from the View menu in the Top Toolbar, to close the panel.

Change the title for the geo map.

  1. Double click on the BPLocation title and change it to Gross Sales by Location.

  2. Quality Check: Does your Geo Map look like this?

  3. Save your story.

Navigate the Geo MAP

  1. Zoom in over the EMEA region by selecting the enlarge magnifier icon.

  2. Hover your cursor over any bubble to see the country’s Gross Sales amount.

Let’s drill into a country to get a more detailed breakdown.

  1. Select Germany and Drill Down.

  2. [Optional] Select a state and drill down to store location.

Remove the drill down filters.

  1. Select the More Actions (…) -> Applied to Geomap -> Choropleth Filter -> ‘X’ to remove the filter.
