Objective
Input Controls are configured to dynamically change which dimension members to display for widgets via filtering. By default all the widgets from the same data source will display any selected dimension members from the input control. You can further use linked analysis to modify the widgets affected by filtering.

In this lesson, you create Input Controls to filter by Year and Sales Organizations across select widgets.
After completing the lesson, your story (in edit mode) should look similar to:

Delete two of the four Input Control placeholders, as we only need two.
[Optional] Open your story in edit mode if not already.
Right click on the second, then fourth Input Control placeholder, and select Delete.

Create an Input Control from the template place holder.
Select the ‘+’ Create an Input Control placeholder in the Filter Lane of the template.

Configure the widget settings.
Select Dimensions.

Select the OrderCreationDate dimension, and then Filter by Member.

Expand the dropdown for the all node, to view all selected years.

Select 2021, 2022 and 2023, then select OK.

Resize the input control to see all years.
Select the widget, when you see a blue box around the widget, resize it down.

Create a second Input Control from the template place holder.
Select the ‘+’ Create an Input Control placeholder in the Filter Lane of the template.

Configure the widget settings.
Select Dimensions.

Select the SALESORG dimension, and then Filter by Member.

Select AMER, APJ and EMEA, then select OK.

Resize the input control to see all years.
Select the widget, when you see a blue box around the widget, resize it down.

Quality Check: Does your Input Controls look like this?

[Optional] Update the Input Control titles.
We don’t want the Global Gross Sales KPI to be dependent on the new filter.
Right click on OrderCreationDate, select Linked Analysis -> Settings.

The Linked Analysis panel opens on the right.
Select Only Selected Widgets, and select Select Widgets.

Select the widgets for Main_Lane_1, and select OK.
We exclude the Global Gross Sale 2023 chart.

Select Apply.

Now repeat the Linked Analysis steps for the SALESORG input control (filter).
Save your story.

Let’s filter on a specific Input Control year and organization, and see the widgets get updated.
Update the OrderCreationDate.
Deselect 2021 and 2023, then select Apply Selections.

Deselect AMER and APJ, then select Apply Selections.

All the widgets were updated, except for the Global Gross Sales 2023 KPI.
