Adding Details to the Statement of Work

Objective

After completing this lesson, you will be able to add the appropriate foundational data elements to a statement of work in SAP Fieldglass.

The SOW Details

Defining the Details of the project is the second part in the creation of an SOW.

While each SOW is generated from an SOW template, the specifics of each statement of work will vary from project to project. After selecting the applicable template, the buyer and supplier have the ability to update, modify, and collaborate on the final details and terms of each project according to their requirements.

The details of the SOW typically include the project dates, business units, cost centers and sites, as well as some basic rules.

Within these two sections are fields that the SOW creator must complete, such as a brief description of the project, the start and end dates of the project, the site, cost center, and business unit, among other required information.

Enhance the SOW Description with AI

Articulating service requirements for SOWs can often be a resource-intensive process. Vague or incomplete project scope and details can increase risk for all parties involved. Fortunately, SAP Fieldglass includes built-in generative AI functionality to assist in enhancing SOW Descriptions.

When creating a new Statement of Work, users can input a series of simple details which instantly generates a comprehensive and detailed SOW Description. This enhanced AI functionality is optional and must be enabled and configured for the specific SOW Type and SOW Templates before it can be used to create SOWs.

Define the Details of the SOW

WorkingNet Networking, Inc., a global manufacturer of data networking equipment, is building several new distribution centers in several countries, while simultaneously implementing new logistics software and processes.

Their first new distribution center is being built in the US, in a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia, so WorkingNet will use the new Atlanta hub as their base of operations. Darius, the Logistics Manager for WorkingNet, is overseeing the project.

Darius has engaged CarryAll Consulting, a logistics design and implementation firm, to help streamline their logistics processes as well as implement the new software.

Together they determine that the project will take six months—from January 1st through June 30th—and will be budgeted at 300,000 USD. A payment of 75,000 will be made at 50% completion, and 100,000 will be paid at completion.

The project also requires SOW Workers which includes a project manager overseeing a team of five implementation consultants. The project manager's hours will be tracked and billed at 125 USD per hour and the consultants at 100 per hour.

In order to engage CarryAll, Darius will use SAP Fieldglass to create the statement of work.

Darius has already chosen the appropriate supplier and SOW template for the SOW he would like to create, and now he must add the project details.

Follow along as Darius adds those details into the SOW.
