During the closing phase of an SPM Project, you complete any tasks in the phase, then edit the project's state to formally close the project. SPM Projects include a Project State field, which can be set to any of the following values:
State | Description |
---|
Active | A project you are currently working on. You use the Active state to track the projects that are currently using resources. |
On Hold | A project that you are not currently working on, but are planning to complete in the future. You use the On Hold state to track projects that are not currently using resources but will require them in the future. |
Planned | A project you are planning but have not yet started. You use the Planned state when you are gathering information and need to allocate resources by tracking upcoming projects by year or quarter. Once you are ready to work on a planned project, you change its state to Active. When you create a project in the Planned state, you must specify planned start and end dates for it. |
Cancelled | A project that you have stopped working on and do not intend to complete. You use the Cancelled state to track projects that have used resources in the past, but will not require any further resources. |
Completed | A project that you have completed. |
When you create an SPM project, you can make it either a Planned or Active project. A project’s state remains the same until you manually edit it. It does not change based on other actions you perform on the project. To close an SPM project, you must manually set the project state to Completed.
Note
All required tasks must be marked complete before you can set the project state to Completed.
