Let's recap on the first use case, application portfolio assessment. An application portfolio assessment systematically reviews and documents and organizations' applications evaluating their interdependencies, usage, and business contribution. This process identifies valuable and vulnerable applications, ensures transparency, and provides a clear understanding of the application portfolio to enable informed decisions and resource optimization. It often serves as the first step toward initiatives like application rationalization. The key activities during an application portfolio assessment are documenting past, present, and planned applications. Achieving full IT landscape transparency is essential, but challenging in today's dynamic business environment. Application portfolio assessments help enterprise architects answer critical questions such as, how many and which applications exist? What is the complexity of the landscape? What are the key cost drivers? How do applications support the business and how critical are they? Which applications pose risks? LENIX supports this use case, typically initiated within the first four to ten weeks of onboarding. The required Linaik's application portfolio management module offers essential features like dashboards, inventory, reports, and diagrams. The application portfolio assessment consists of three steps. The first step is to define the scope of your initiative. The second is about enriching data, ensuring that all relevant attributes are filled. And last but not least, assess your data and define next steps. Let's dig a bit deeper into the first step. How to scope your initiative. Here it is recommended to start small to achieve quick wins and adopt SAP Linux successfully. Use these guidelines to define a realistic scope and realize benefits quickly. Focus on key fact sheet types. Begin with applications, business capabilities, and organizations. IT components are optional. If using the SAP Lean IX SaaS catalog, they will auto-populate along with providers for later use. Limit business capability levels. Define business capabilities up to two levels. Ideally, no more than three. Analyze critical applications. Focus on a subset of business-critical applications that, drive key operations. Target key business areas. Choose one or two business areas covering critical capabilities and likely to support your effort. To ensure reliable data involve stakeholders such as business and technical application owners. Identify organizational pioneers who can champion the initiative and inspire wider adoption across teams. Now it is time to enrich your data. For step two, one of the key guidelines is to think backwards. What are the key questions that you want to see answered during your application portfolio assessment. Which reports will most likely help you get those insights? What information do you need? Which gaps do you need to close in your inventory to achieve that? These questions are simple but very effective to narrow down your effort to what you really need instead of investing a lot of time to collect data. If you want to analyze your application landscape, for example, by using the application portfolio report, you can start by reviewing and adding missing or updating existing information on following attributes on the application fact sheet, technical fit, functional fit and business criticality, as well as time classification. First, apply Gartner's time model to classify applications in your inventory according to the four dimensions. Tolerate, invest, migrate, and eliminate. Second, apply Gartner's pace -layered application strategy mentioned already briefly. This helps you cluster your business capabilities into three. different categories. Commodity, typically 70 to 75% of business capabilities, differentiation, usually 20%, and innovation, normally 5% to 10%. Third, apply reports and start with the most common ones that SAP Lean-I-X provides out-of -the-box. Like the Application Landscape Report helps you identify applications in your IT landscape depending on the color-coded overview that you choose based on the filtering available. or the IT component matrix report, which gives you a color -coded overview of your IT components, your technical stack, and providers. Keep in mind that you need to have IT component and provider data in place, so it might be not the first report to go if you start working with SAP LeanI-X. Next, you can again test it out yourself.
